My son has an appointment to USNA Class of 2015. Thank you for sharing all of your stories and advice. From what I have read, the anxiety we are feeling only gets tougher until I-Day...then it becomes unbearable! Like many of you, our son is tightly wrapped in bubble-wrap. Looking forward to the adventures that await us!

Congrats to your son, bergmom :thumb:
One more word of advice worth repeating again: Keep his back-up school plan current until the I-day registration process has been completed !
My current Mid had some medical complications after receiving his appointment due to contracting mononucleosis in late Spring of his HS senior year...he had to be re-examined by DODMERB and was (surprisingly to us) medically DQ'd in early June (just 48 hrs before departing on a HS graduation trip to Europe ).....luckily for him, with some great initial assistance from Larry Mullen on this forum (DODMERB), he was re-evaluated and eventually given a medical waiver and clearance to attend I-day...but the back-up school plan was still there if he had needed it :thumb:!

I second that, Congrats to your son, bergmom. He will now embark, on the most important journey of his life. It's great that he made a choice to defend freedom. We have a family friend whose son is at the Academy. He has changed, so much, so mature, such a young man. I just bet your son turns out the same. Tell him I say thank you for his service, to this great country.
God Bless to your family and God Speed,

And, that first year is so so so hard, for mom especially, I think.
We made sure our cadets had a back up school, with money deposited which we lost, in case of injury/illness, etc. at BCT at USAFA. Despite broken noses and a trip the ER, sons made it through!
Advice: put in a supply of tissues! stamps! and cards!

Cards......Once my son rec'd appt, I began card shopping......I sent a card, some funny, some inspirational, EVERY day of plebe summer. Now, he's a 3/C at USNA. I am still using my cards, in the monthly care packages, etc.

Thank you so much for the great advice! The back-up plan, although necessary, is so hard to do...don't want to even think about how hard it would be to have something terrible happen that would prevent my son from going to USNA...it would be too heart-breaking!! That being said, he has applied to 2 other schools...just in case:eek:
A quick question...my son's DODMERB status has never changed to "Offer Extended" should I be concerned about this or is it just an oversight??
We are off to CVW this weekend...he is very excited about this...any last minute advice?? Should he take sleeping bag or sheets? Should he take a backpack to go to class? Should he bring any "treats" for the plebe he will be stayng with?
Thanks for being "out there" with such good support...hope I will be able to repay this kindness to another mother someday!

DoDMERB may be slow reacting. To be honest, I don't think we ever looked at it once we had that big blue folder in hand!
You should have gotten a letter about CVW and what to bring in terms of bedding. Backpack probably very handy for notebook, etc to carry to class.
Sounds like you are going too! Good plan! If you've never been, you'll have fun and Annapolis is fun to explore. Search CVW on the USNA forum on here and there is tons of advice on the topic.
