How do they seperate men from woman in the appointment process. I guess the Airforce has to take about 20-25 percent woman.. Do woman go up against other woman in getting a slot and men against men untill they fill a certain quota.. Do you have less of a chance if you are a girl because they don't take so many?... Any information would be appreciated.. Thanks.

Can't speak for USAFA, but USNA uses gender-blind admissions. Yes, they know if you're male or female but they don't segregate applications by gender. They get about the right percentage of applications from equally talented males and females such that, if they take the best overall, they get the numbers they want. IOW, about 20-25% of the applications come from females and that's the percentage they are looking for in an incoming class.l

The AFA is also gender blind when it comes to selection.

There is no quota per se.

Yes, they can tell via the CFA and other things if you are a female. but the way to get the apptmt is the highest WCS.

If your WCS is the highest than you win the apptmt regardless of your sex.

They are not going to say we need 25% to be female, thus, the male candidate on the MOC slate who has the highest WCS loses the apptmt so we can get the female numbers in line.

Your CFA as a a female will be awarded points. that is added into the WCS. Guys will be awarded their points. Both have max levels and are awarded accordingly to the max level of their sex. From there you are both on equal footing.

Exactly as Pima and usna mentioned. When the academy wants MORE of a specific minority; they do it in recruiting. The go out and try and get MORE people to "Apply" to the academy from that minority group. Thus: If "X%" more women apply to the academy, and they appoint the same amount as last year, then there's a greater chance that more women will be appointed. E.g. If this year; 15% of the applicants are women, the mathematical logic says that approximately 15% of the appointments will be women. Not because of shifting or affirmative action, but because when dealing with 10,000+ applicants, and only accepting 13-14%, it will be a wash and work out somewhat evenly. If the next year 20% of the applicants are women, then chances are that there will be an increase in women receiving an appointment.
