Do the C4C's get any instruction on filing taxes? Do most file a state tax in Colorado or returns from their home state with "out of state" income? Assuming a C4C had no income prior to attending the Academy in 2010, do cadets typically get a refund of any sort from the IRS? Thanks.

There will be people available to help cadets do their taxes. The cadets have to keep their eyes open for the emails detailing when and where. They will file state taxes in their home state, and the income will be just regular income, not 'out of state'. The only exception to that is if your cadet changed his home of record to Colorado (or is from there). Our son has gotten almost all of his withholding back in refunds since he has been there.

Our cadet filed as a PA resident (3.07% state income tax - relatively modest compared to many). Colorado is 4.63%.
Fed refund has been ~ $160 or so a year.
