Is it possible to do SEAL training if you are a "West Point'r"

No.
Navy SEAL.

West Point = Army.

Technically, yes. If you cross-commissioned upon graduation from WP, you could enter the Navy. It you went into the Navy, you would have a chance at a SEAL slot.

...I wouldn't count on it though! The odds are stacked VERY heavily against it.

Everyone should just join the Navy, since every other question is about how to become a SEAL.

And people say the Marine Corps has a PR machine!

My grandfather, a member of the US Army Ranger Hall of Fame, used to gripe "every hill in Korea the Marines ever passed, they stuck a camera on top."

If you judge the Navy by their commercials, the entire service consists of two things: SEALs and fighter pilots.

Don't forget Submarines that propel themselves out of the water on a daily basis

And the AF with their "Predator" commercials and these which seem totally outrageous:

Didn't know I was a ranger.

Saw some trees and shrubs in that video. Don't remember a lot of those at Lackland.

This is a new one for the AF. I remember when that was then. And I was a TI at Kessler AFB

I always liked the poem written in tribute (?!) to the ferocious powers of self promotion of my beloved USMC (I think I first read this in Leon Uris' "Battle Cry," but I'm not sure). Although, having now seen "Act of Valor," I think maybe the Navy SEALS are now tops in this category (fun film, btw). An excerpt from the poem, which is of WWII vintage:

The Marines, the Marines,
Those blasted Gyrenes,
Those seagoing bellhops,
Those brass-buttoned queens,
Oh! They pat their own back
Write stories in reams,
All in the praise of themselves—
The U.S. Marines!

The Marines, the Marines,
Those publicity fiends,
They built all the forests,
Turned on all the streams,
Discontent with the earth,
They say Heaven’s scenes
Are guarded by—you guess! Right!
U.S. Marines!

to Saint Peter I will tell

The idea of the Marines as an "elite" force is a myth they've worked quite hard to cultivate, and it's a marketing tool they've used to great effect.

Why? He is correct in many ways. The term "elite" came to be associated with the Corps by way of some advertiser......and Scout is also correct when he states "and it's a marketing tool they've used to great effect."

Besides, WE all know what ARMY stands for -

A - Aren't
R - Ready to be
M - Marines
Y - Yet

(now remember...this is all in good fun people)

Another steely-eye, baby eating, warrior from the sea started TBS today. The Marine Corps is all that it is advertised to be!

Yeah, the Army has to dumb us down first. Then we'll be ready.

I'm just happy the Army and Marine Corps have all of these games to teach them how to spell.

I guess they had to learn it at some point!

Good to hear!
My baby girl will be commissioned in May and heading off to law school this summer....looking back, I often wonder how she found herself on this path. She was born while I was deployed and watched me go off on duty assignments more often than not. But today she is a grown beautiful young woman who will probably be smarter than I. I attribute a lot of this to her Mother, who was there guiding her when I was not.

:yllol: I knew I could count on a reply from you! Good reply and all in good fun....or so I hope.

Didn't you say your Grandfather was a member of the US Army Ranger Hall of Fame some where on this thread....?

Without knowing anything else, I would say that is some one to admire!
:beer1:

I would admit to being intersted in hearing some of his exploits....

Sounds like the Marines would like to show their softer side now a days to society with their new marketing campaign
"A new Marine Corps advertising campaign starting this weekend takes its cue from research showing today's recruit-age generation is interested in helping people. So the campaign is crafted to show Marines not only as warriors but as humanitarians and peacekeepers; not only as courageous but also as compassionate."
