Do candidates who are reapplying get the same BGO officer If they do self prep at NMMI?

You can if you desire. I highly recommend you switch to one of our NMMI faculty members here who is a BGO. This way you have "instant access" to him when you need it.

Very much major, thank you. Would you happen to know the percent of self preps that are awarded appointments to Service Academies?

That's difficult to answer since the "dust" hasn't settled yet. Academies don't "give" appointments, they "offer" appointments. The person offered an appointment has three choices: they can accept, decline, or chose to wait until 1 May to make a decision. Some candidates apply to multiple academies and if their 2nd choice responds with an offer first - they wait. Those that decline, or wait and then decline, create openings for qualified candidates on "the list".

When all is said an done I think this will be a "slim" year for self preps. The national economy, the budget cuts to the military, and the increased number of applications to all the service academies do not bode well for potential hopefuls. Next year? Who knows? This is an election year but even with a change in leadership at the top, it will probably take two years to reverse some of the trends.

Meaning 2012-2013 has the possibility of having a better chance of offers then this years current class?

As a reapplicant, your best bet is to win your congressional vacancy. Since the class size is getting smaller, if we start setting aside required appointments, Congressional, Active Duty, Presidential, and so on, appointments from the National Waiting List will get smaller.

How can you win your Congressional vacancy - hope your competition sucks (I am just kidding). Being a reapplicant only gives you so much second look. So, if your SAT is not competitive or your high school GPA is low, that where ever you go need to improve your SAT scores and get good grades.

know two reapplicants from my state with appointment offers, both did NOT go to a military college, one went to regular college with ROTC and other candidate attended a local community college.

Will I be able to participate in a club sport, specifically swimming, while at a SA prep school?

Clubs and "activities" are available (we have scuba club as an "activity" if you are into that kind of swimming). We also have an indoor pool with high and low diving platforms that are open year round. You can swim during your free time. We usually have half a dozen or so recruited swimmers here from multiple academies.

What you have to look out for is playing a varsity sport at the college level. If you do (under NCAA rules) you will lose a year of eligibility at a D-1 school like USNA. This is NOT the case if you go to a D-3 school like the USCGA.

In the past our High School swim coach has allowed a limited number of Preps to be assistant coachs for his team. This way they got time in the water, built up their leaderships skills, and help the team.

Does NMMI have their own swim team or club? Because I still want to swim (competitively/train) while still retaining my 4 years of eligibility while at a SA prep.

There is no college, varsity swim team. There is a high school varsity swim team. Most swimmers (recruited) either work out together or in some way with the high scool team.
