I will add in on this, but from a different perspective.
Anyone can join a group. Our friend, an AFA alumni, retired O6, GS15 step 10 with AF Homeland uses facebook as a RESOURCE regarding employment.
He never posts, but because he belongs to YOUR group, he gets to see into ALL of your pics and posts.
Teens think we in our 40's are not tech savvy. BS!
I have never befriended my children on FB, but because of backdoors like groups or be-friending a friend of theirs I can see everything they post. Every picture too.
Again, not all of you will get an apptmt., many of you will go AFROTC. Most likely you will join that Det's FB page. CC's will be able to see you. At our DS's school, a cadet was read the riot act because of underage drinking...friends your age will typically announce stupid things like...Man, you were so drunk, (underage drinking) etc! That picture where you were tagged just placed you in a negative light!
FB IMPO is like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Be careful because it is not only cadets at BCT that will nail you, but it can also bite you in the AFROTC world.
OBTW, many posters here will remember back in 08 or 09 how an appointee posed next to a fighter on a stick with "MY JET" caption (paraphrasing). That guy on the bus because of that FB pic was "new meat", they ate him alive.
You want to be under the radar for BCT.
Join, create friendships, but if a MOB mentality occurs as in "This is the best yr ever because of competition level compared to 11-15" keep your mouth shut.
If my one FB cadet wasn't enough, back in 07, there was a cadet that made You Tube history being berated by a female cadet because he implied a "macho" attitude regarding women.
