Does anyone have any reccomendations of good books written about AFSOC aviation missions or non-standard aircraft?

Hard to find that. You might look for something on the SS Mayaguez, but as with a few of the better known AFSOC (precursor) missions, it didn't end well.
Otherwise, dig into Urgent Fury and Just Cause.
You might enjoy this book. See how the real mccoys do things.

With most things in SOCOM, only the failures get big press.
Books about Robert's Ridge might have some good info on AC-130 ops, but that is a bit tangential. Same thing for combat search and rescue, as that was briefly in AFSOC.

I read "Heart of the Storm" a couple years ago. The book is more about the AF SAR community, but the pilot commonly worked with pararescuemen and it's a good read.
