went to AIM Summer 2008, please give a shout.

My son was in the second session this summer. His nickname there was Willy Wonka.

My sons attended AIM and truly loved everything about the academy! It was such a great experience for them. Anyway, the DoDmerb website shows that the application status changed for one son, but nothing on the other. Needless to say we are worried that it may mean some"one" may be very disappointed or both. Did anyone receive any word yet? I suppose we will all know within the next few weeks.

I think I remember your son, I attended the second session too! What company was he in? I remember one of the cadre announcing him as Willy Wonka at the graduation.

Mom with two sons - are they twins? Fraternal or identical? What is their second choice after USCGA?

Sorry, I decided to stop "lurking" on the sites for a while. Anyway, twins makes a difficult process somewhat more complicated, if you can imagine! I think that they will eventually choose wherever they both get in. Just my opinion, of course, because they are both very determined to make up their own minds, independent of their twin. I'm hoping for the best--it will be tough to break up the "team" after so many years together! Good Luck to all....we should find out soon.

that he told us from AIM.

By the way, for some reason, it is going straight, so with each trim the complete Wonka look diminishes.

Nevertheless, he remembers the Wonkinator speech!

Our son was in Hotel Company 1st session of AIM in 2008. We met some parents from Illinois who had just dropped their other kid off at Merchant Marine Academy--are you guys lurking here also, your son was at USCGA AIM first session. We are still waiting on any word from USCGA, our son did get a "guaranteed offer of appointment" from USNA and we are waiting on a nomination to complete that...here's hoping for any Academy at this point--nervous!

Do you mean your son has a USNA LOA and you "know" he has a nod from USCGA with letters in the mail? How cool is that!! Wishing you all the best also!

Hi MWBluebeard,
He received a call last night informing him of the Appointment. It was a complete surprise to him, as the most recent news was he had an LOA at Navy, but no nomination...He was in a funk until the call came. Now he is on cloud nine. I will keep all informed when the Letter arrives.

If you don't mind me asking.

Does everyone get a call? Seems like people are holding out for letters, not phone calls.

Sometimes a coach will make the call to a recruited athlete.

Most appointments come via the mail.

I'm keeping it between ya'll and myself... not wanting to drive son and family crazy. Well, okay, I'm bothering my IRL friends, too. I am so anxious to get some word.

I know there are many others who are feeling the same way.

Bless all our hearts.

Try to relax. We are all right there with you. Last year my son missed the EA deadline and had to wait until June. I thought, on many occaisions, that we just couldn't do this for another day, but somehow we did. There is a plan for your boy, and worrying will not change it one little bit.

Hang in there, and I hope you get some GREAT news before Christmas. But, if you don't, may it be forthcoming early next Spring.

By the way, my son is doing CC right now and the reapplication process has been tough too. Redid SAT, and all the other stuff too. He won't hear until after the new year due to college grades being needed. Soooo....I feel your pain. Son has, however, gained a LOT of maturity through this whole process, and it has reinforced his desire to attend the academy. (and we got to have him home for another year...this momma liked that part a lot. The kid didn't like that part so much as he is in a hurry to grow up, but he did mature and develop in so many wonderful ways).

Try to enjoy your holidays.

funny how uptight a mama can get over her cubs? We're just lionesses in skirts, I guess.

Thank you for replying and best wishes to you, and to all who are hanging out here and waiting for the news.

Congratulations on your appointment! Can you share what type of SAT score and other grades your son had along with athletics, etc... Trying to examine their range of picks. Any info you have would be great. Again, Congrats to you all, the news is just fabulous.

Thanks for your reply. We live out west and we're just waiting, too! My son's status shows qualified as of Dec. 02, and I wonder if that simply means the date one is completely qualified, or if it means qualified and will receive an appointment. Denvick, congrats to you on your amazing appointment.

So I get home today and there is a big white enveople marked First Class Mail from USCGA...I open it and.... It ia a letter talking about how the CG was a major part in helping after Hurricain Katrina and a CD.It was urging me to look into the Academy. I was soooooooo confused. I have already had this for a few months. Anyone else get somthing like this? Any ideas why I did?

Averx, I got the same letter today; I got home from school and saw an envelope and I'm like that's cool, I open it and I was also confused. Have you watched the CD that it came with?

Thanks,

I wonder if that has something to do with all the "incomplete apps" that everyone had ??? and the glitch in their system??? If so then we will probably get one in a couple of days... ughhh

got the same thing as well, I was going through the cd and it all seemed very familiar, I think i have definetly gotten this cd before.

My new moto here at the house is "it is what it is", I've done my part with the application so I guess I just have to wait and see...

You are right, it is what it is. We probably all need to relax and get ready for Christmas now. Tomorrow is the third Sunday in Advent (advent means waiting in some sense) and I feel today as if I have been "waiting" very intently---but not for the the right thing. We should all take a deep breath!(with me at the front of the line :-) Next year will bring what it brings and it will all be good, you'll see!
Now, if my son had gotten that big envelope without me seeing these posts, I might have been one of those mom's with a "heart attack." However, my son went through all of his past mail from USCGA and it seemed like he was on two mailing lists fromt the beginning. There was the "thanks for your interest and thanks for applying" bunch of mail and then the "consider us we are great and look at what we can do for you and please apply soon" bunch of mail. Amazing such a small academy would have that issue, but it's been going on since he applied for AIM. Let's not worry about it--looks like it is just a glitch, but it is good to check on each individual case to make sure, always.

With those SMART words... I am going to start decorating my home for the Season... not just the USCGA waiting but illnesses and other college (backup) apps have taken up so much of the last 2 months none of us here have realy gotten prepared for Christmas (except I was one of those out shopping at 4am on Black Friday)..

Everyone have a great Weekend :shake:

J C-- (thank you for saying my post was smart--I am recruiting other "smart" people so welcome! :-) my tree is now decorated, the wreath is on the door--now if I could get motivated and clean this house!!! Anyway, I know what you mean about he illnesses and all (I had surgery on 24 nov and then made the mistake of "feeling better" by black friday, so we went shopping, big mistake). Internet shopping is the way to go!!!
I apologize in advance for digressing in this post...the waiting makes me crazy! The uncertainty is even worse...but it was good to get the house ready! Enjoy!

My D is a CGA Prep Scholar at MMI and she also got the big envelope with the CD, telling her to consider CGA, so I'm thinking they had a glitch in their system - maybe mixed up their mailing lists?

I received a letter as well in the big package and I got extremely excited...until I opened it. It was a letter about a pilot and the CD came with it as well. Then, I just got a little angry. No offense to admissions, but does that seem logical to send letters like this out when all of the EA applicants are going crazy with waiting?
