So my site was just updated today and my application is now 100% complete. Unfortunately I just found this forum tonight..which sucks because it would have made the entire process much easier. I started applying halfway through the summer, and sent my apps for nominations by the congressmen off sometime in August. I took my CFA last Sunday (and lost six pounds from start to finish - had the stomach flu) and scored pretty well; according to my ALO I scored amongst the best of his former candidates.
Anyways, I figured I'd post my stats and such just because it seems everybody else already has. I've gotten a general idea of how I stack up from reading the other threads here, but it can't hurt to post I suppose.
GPA: 3.7 unweighted, 4.45 weighted
ACT: 33 overall (34 English, 33 Math, 36 Reading, 30 Science, 30 Eng/Writing) - I am taking the SATs on October 10th and will send in scores
Class rank: 13/470
CFA Results:
76ft ball throw
17 pull-ups (my liaison officer told me the max was 17 so I stopped when I got there =\\\)
8.9s shuttle-run
95 sit-ups
55 push-ups (meh)
6:19 mile time (ok, keep in mind I had the stomach flu and threw up pretty much everything in me during this - I regularly run sub-6min miles with ease in track and I don't even do the distance events)
I've been a varsity track athlete since freshman year, and was on varsity tennis sophomore year. I'm not in StuCo or NHS or anything like that simply because I haven't had time, but I have tons and tons of community service over the years, am super active in my youth group, work two jobs, and participate in lots of other extra-curricular activities.
My essays were pretty good imo (I scored a 5 on my Comp/Lit AP exam last year so I wasn't really worried about those) and my letters of recommendation were decent (talking about the average writing quality - they said all sorts of nice things about me of course). My physical went perfectly, and I was qualified after a minor remedial (was too dehydrated for the first urinalysis =\).
I've taken honors classes my entire life, and scored well on my AP exams last year (4 in psychology, 5 in comp/lit). I'm taking Chem II AP, Physics B AP, and Gov AP this year, as well as English Lit H (my schedule won't allow me to take the AP class though I still plan on taking the exam for easy credit).
Aside from all of this junk, I guess I'd just like to say hi as well as that I'm glad this site exists - I'm definitely happy to be able to talk to others in the same situations as me, as well as those who've already overcome the trial of receiving a spot at the academy.
My name is George and I live in Las Vegas. I attend a decent high school with a good football team (wish I'd stuck with it after freshman year =\), and have been extremely busy ever since the end of last year. I'm currently in the process of applying to the USNA, Colorado School of Mines, UC Berkley, and UNLV. I'm looking at majoring in aeronautical or chemical engineering, so wherever I go will decide what I end up doing.
Thanks guys .
edit: is Nevada a competitive state?
