Yes! If it’s a 3 year scholarship you are responsible for the first year so it’s nice to have other scholarships and FAFSA to help with that.I was wondering about how to fill in the first year. My son got three years. We are also waiting for FAFSA. If we need to pay the first year, can FAFSA be applied to the bill of first year?
The Army doesn't consider which schools you're accepted to. They're looking to balance scholarships across Cadet Command.does anyone know why my DS would only be awarded to 3 of his schools and one of them he isn't even accepted to yet. Also, is the only difference between a scholarship and joining ROTC in college the monthly stipend? I can't quite figure out what the benefit of this scholarship actually is if you can join ROTC at any school and get the same award.
That's the Early Commissioning Program - it is a 4-year scholarship, but the first two years are at one of the Military Junior Colleges, and you commission after two years. Then you complete your bachelor's degree at a normal school on the Army's dime. You'll just already be commissioned and serving in the guard or reserve until you complete your degree - at which point you can move into active duty, or stay in a reserve compo.I got an email for a ECP scholarship, which I know nothing about. Does this mean I didn't receive a rotc scholarship? My website still says boarded/underconsideration for january.
Execute a scholarship transfer - once awarded, that's it...you're not re-boarded. As mention in a previous post, it's easy to transfer scholarships...contact ROO at desired program and they'll work it. Takes a few emails and maybe a phone call from a PMS to make it happen. What an exciting afternoon!
I know there is a chance that 3-year winners can be 'upgraded' to a 4-year after the third board.
Question: is it possible that the 3-year could be applied to an additional school not awarded at the second board? For example, if you win 3-year to XU and YU on 2nd board, could you then get a 3-year to ZU on 3rd board? Or is that more likely to be reconciled via discussion with the ROO at ZU for them to execute a transfer?
hmm ok the the colleges listed weren't even all in his top choices, and they have a P next to them. I guess I am confused as on the ROTC site it says they give an ROTC member full tuition also, kinda looks the same as what my DS just won. And he only won 3 year, just wanted to confirm that we should be as excited as we are.The Army doesn't consider which schools you're accepted to. Everyone gets the stipend once contracted...so a non-scholarship MS3 (Junior) cadet who is not on scholarship gets the stipend the same as a scholarship cadet does.
Scholarship is either full tuition or $10k per academic year, plus book stipend and regular stipend.
It’s gone up to $12k per academic yearThe Army doesn't consider which schools you're accepted to. They're looking to balance scholarships across Cadet Command.

that's three years of tuition covered. At some schools (like Syracuse) - that's $200k - pretty good excitement.hmm ok the the colleges listed weren't even all in his top choices, and they have a P next to them. will it be tuition and board, or just tuition?that's three years of tuition covered. At some schools (like Syracuse) - that's $200k - pretty good excitement.
Thank you very much. So this means I didn't receive an actual rotc 3/4 year scholarship for this board, but I can still compete in the 3rd board, correct? That's the Early Commissioning Program - it is a 4-year scholarship, but the first two years are at one of the Military Junior Colleges, and you commission after two years. I think it's a horrible program that is antiquated, but it has congressional support - so it's not going away. It's codified in law.
What does mean the “P” next to schools?hmm ok the the colleges listed weren't even all in his top choices, and they have a P next to them. We did some rough math for DD…. For 3 years at Cornell, accounting for tuition, books, and monthly stipend, it ends up being a little over $221kthat's three years of tuition covered. At some schools (like Syracuse) - that's $200k - pretty good excitement.
Id love to know as well. I feel so silly being so confused suddenlyWhat does mean the “P” next to schools?
just tuition or $12k per year (student's choice) - obviously if it's a private, big money school - take the tuition option.will it be tuition and board, or just tuition?
Correct - if you were offered a JUCO scholarship, just do not reply to it and you will still be considered in March. You do not have to reply.Thank you very much. So this means I didn't receive an actual rotc 3/4 year scholarship for this board, but I can still compete in the 3rd board, correct?
Offered Ike ECP Scholarship this afternoon. No change on my portal (still under Boarded/UC), does this mean that I have been passed up for a 4yr or 3yr this board? Or is there still a shot I receive a 4/3yr offer this board? Hoping that I don't have to wait again in March.Correct - if you were offered a JUCO scholarship, just do not reply to it and you will still be considered in March. You do not have to reply.
It took about three hours for everyone to find out in October, that was a much smaller selection without computer program issues. Might take a few to get all the results. Not over until its over.My sons still says boarded under consideration. I’m guessing at this point it means he’s going to the March board. Very disappointing for him since he already is in the national guard with split ops. I’m not completely sure how it works but he believes that if he is not a scholarship winner, he will have to complete AIT before beginning college and starting ROTC. We’ve never been completely able to get a straight answer about this. But I think that is the case because he would still be under his existing contract
It’s exciting - he also received scholarships to RPI & Villanova.Looks like our kids will probably be there together!
