7th Semester Transcript

DS awoke checked email this morning and found a message from USMA saying if they did not receive his 7th semester transcript by Friday, they would revoke his appointment. YIKES! :wow:

Two things immediately came to mind:

1. Thank goodness he is so attached to his i-Touch and checks his email religiously (Boy, never thought I say that).

2. Where was this transcript request/necessity communicated? In the bevy of forms, there is a final transcript request form, but nothing for seventh semester. The portal is all green check marks. Didn't see anything about it on the myriad pre-R Day checklists we received. Oh well. Guess that's something we can ask them to make more obvious for future classes.

Long story short, it shouldn't be a problem as we can get a transcript pretty quickly and our regional admissions team said a faxed/emailed copy was acceptable, so ... crisis averted, but I shudder to think what could've resulted.

Appointees ... please check your emails regularly and ensure that your 7th semester/term transcripts are turned in.

I am a candidate with an LoA and I also received the same email stating that my LoA would be revoked if I didn't send it in by last Friday.

Thankfully, I saw the email on Monday (of last week) and was able to fax it to WP by Wednesday.

Just received what was probably the same email that was sent to Claw - you can bet that I was a bit disturbed. Although I was definitely aware of the request of the 7th semester grades, my MALO told me to send them in "as soon as they were ready". They were available about a month ago but I had been kind of forgetting about it recently. Like Claw said, it probably would be helpful for some kind of notification via portal or email for the transcripts.

Just goes to show that you should never assume anything :\. I assumed that the 7th semester grades weren't due until long and although its technically my fault, its still worth noting that I don't remember receiving ANY formal request for my last semester grades.

If you haven't done so already, get your 7th semester transcripts from your counselor and scan+email/fax them to West Point ASAP!

My son received the same e-mail as well. I ordered his 7th semester transcript around the middle of February, however, this e-mail kind of kicked my appointee's rear. He's going through a bit of 'I know everything' and 'I'll do it when I feel like it!' Under normal circumstances that would be alright, but in this case it is not! He went through his portal and what we could complete, we did. I keep using the bubble wrap analogy when he wants to go out with his friends. This year it is more important than ever!

Boy, does that response sound familiar.

Sounds like we may have found our sons' future room mates. Or at least very close friends.

Sounds like many of us are having the same experience!

;-)

Just texted son who is out of school at a Rotary Meeting the heads-up on transcripts....

My son received this same message this morning even though he had sent his transcript over a month ago. His candidate portal shows that WP has 7 transcripts so I replied to the email (since he was at school) and copied the information from the portal. I quickly received an reply email saying they do have his transcipt and to excuse the incorrectly sent email.

So what did we miss?

I'm feeling a little better that others missed the notice, too; but am also a little frustrated. What did we/he miss?

My wife tore through the folder of everything he's received from USMA for the last three years and cannot find the requirement or due date for the 7th semester transcripts anywhere.

We spoke to the regional admissions folks and they just said it was in the literature. So now it's a personal family challenge, kind of like "Where's Waldo?" or an Easter Egg Hunt.

So, where's the 7th Semester transcript requirement mentioned?

Yeah! I found it! It is in the Instructions for Applicants, page 7, on the candidates portal under the heading Request for Information. Do I win a lollipop or something?

He submitted a scanned copy of his report card as of the end of the 1st semester. We're running so far behind because of snow days, I hope they don't see the delayed year-end report as a default.

There's so much to do, isn't there? I am making a cd of all the docs we've sent in .pdf format so he can take a hard copy of everything for R-Day and we'll keep the cd at the hotel as back-up. Including cover letters, there are 30 documents on the cd and I don't pick-up the immunization record and lab tests from the doctor 'til tomorrow. That should be our final document mailing.

We could only find the running count of transcripts received, but nothing noting they were waiting for anything. Everything was green checkmarks and sunshine on the portal.

I told him that common sense would dictate that they'd want the report, since they have requested every other semester transcript. Why would they just take a pass on the seventh one?

He said he filled out the form for a final transcript request, but saw nothing else. I think that's probably because the final transcript is a little different from the High School's perspective. Everyone wants/needs their final, and the form is a means of reminding the school that you require one to be sent to the Academy quickly and efficiently. I would think that depending on the timing of the HS graduation and size of the graduating class, it could conceivably not even be ready until after a plebe is already at Beast.

I think he just became conditioned to respond to various checklists and timelines and spaced on this one being turned in. It must have been written somewhere; it's just darned if we know where.

Yeah I got that email too. I was under the impression we only had to send in the final transcripts because of the request form. Luckily I was able to get my 7th semester faxed this morning and my portal updated soon after. I thought that the 3/12 deadline or close your file was harsh! Hopefully people who don't check their emails often enough do so today.

My son received the following email this morning. Good thing he got it, as he is off to the UK/Scotland today with his classmates for Winterim/Spring Break trip.

Fortunately, his cadet portal shows the 7th semester transcripts have been received.

I encourage all parents to assist your cadet candidate to help with his follow-up requirements. My son has specifically asked that I help out since he is quite busy with school, sports, homework, and now out of the country and may be away from email. In the interim, I will be checking his email and postal mail.

The following is the text of the email my son received today. It has several useful items of interest:

Dear Far West Offered/Accepted West Point Candidate,

Congratulations on your West Point Offer! I look forward to potentially welcoming you into the Class of 2014 on R-Day in June. There are a few things that I need to immediately address. We are in the midst of one of the most competitive admissions cycle in over a decade. We currently have more offers/commitments out than we have allocated slots in the class. What does that mean to you? It means that you can easily loose a slot in the class if you fail to maintain your continued record of success or submit required information. For example, receiving Ds/Fs during your senior year could result in the revocation of your offer! Lapses in judgment can also lead to revocation of an offer. You want to keep your noses clean; don’t get arrested, don’t get suspended, don’t participate in sports hazing, don’t post questionable things/pictures on Facebook (trust me you have friends that are not really your friends), etc, etc, etc. I am not trying to scare you, I just want you to be properly warned, so that if something does pop up, you cannot say that I did not warn you of the possibility. Many candidates have failed to turn in their 7th semester transcripts; all of these oversights can have consequences. Please heed my advice. GO ARMY!

Wow, M2inOR that is quite a seriously worded email!

My son also received an email about the 7th semester transcript from his RD (Southeast Region) and it was only one or two sentences stating that it needed to be received by March 12th or he could lose his appointment. He also received a follow up apology email that his transcript had already been received a few weeks ago (both emails were in his inbox when he checked his mail tonight).

It seems as if each Regional Director used their own wording for the email.

We had a similar email from the Southeast Region this morning... that was quickly followed by a "please disregard email" 20 minutes later. Almost smells like someone hacked into the email system and sent out emails?

Subject: United States Military Academy - 7th Semester grades needed!

Greetings from West Point!

You recently received an offer of admission from West Point. Congratulations on your offer! This offer is contingent upon the continuation of your excellent record. Your 7th semester transcripts were due to West Point on February 28th in order to update your file. We have not received them yet. Your offer will be withdrawn if we do not receive your updated transcripts by Friday, March 12th.

I emiled my regional admissions guy about this over a month ago, and he said I didn't need to send them. I have not revieced an email. Should I send the transcript just in case?

I'm going to call the Southeast Rep in the morning to confirm they have the 7th set... portal is showing a 7 next to my "Number of High School Transcripts" so I am pretty sure they received my set. I'll probably run into the high school front office and get a copy and .pdf another to admissions just to double cover all the bases. Email was pretty sharp in its language toward the consequences.
