NROTC NSI Assignment

He was selected on the December board.

Completed all forms that he could electronically.

Mailed the other required forms as soon as he got them.

Recv’d notification of their review of what he snail-mailed them with a tentative NSI assignment pending final review.

Recv’d NSI assignment via email today, he’s assigned to NSI 2 starting 27 June, graduating 15 July.

My DS is sending in all forms this week. Everything is in order except for the school he’ll be attending.
Does the NSI assignment go in order of filing or when high school year ends? He’d prefer NSI 1.
He was selected for an ISR in first board if that even matters.

Good Luck

Son had to indicate that NSI 1 conflicted with his HS graduation date, other than that I’m going with the needs of the Navy will take precedent when assigning MIDN to NSI blocks.

Which school he attends can effect which NSI block is placed in. Some units try to get all of there candidates into one block, some don't. The only thing that NSTC will consider when placing a candidate into a NSI iteration is school related. If you have a summer school planned during a iteration, they will try to schedule you for another one, but it is always "needs of the Navy".

Also don't be surprised if it changes in the last minute. More if you are not specifically scheduled earlier as we get closer to summer, but it is always possible.

my son sent his packet in on Monday 2/12/24

How fast was the turnaround on NSI Date?
If he can make the first NSI traunch then the answer will come back quickly. The other two waves can take longer but last year most of the assignments were out by April.

My son received his today and is assigned to the same one.

We should start a parent support group. 😂

Will you be going to the graduation? I didn't know that was a thing until today.

There really isn't a cut off date. They try to balance the number of Midshipmen across all three dates. Some people will be assigned right away and others may only get a week's notice.

If NROTC is his “Final Answer” I will definitely attend.

My father (his grandfather) and I both started our journey at Great Lakes (my Dad in ‘61 for Recruit Training, me in ‘87 for Recruit Training & EM “A” School).

Son is still in the mix for USNA & USCGA. He also has ROTC & AFROTC 4-year scholarships. Waiting on DoD Dellums SMART scholarship selection board as well.

Waiting on the SAs & Ivy Day before he decides his path (service, school, engineering discipline).

Turnaround was a little over one week!
NSI date is 6/06-6/24.
Good to know! Our son just received the NROTC Prep scholarship so may go too. He just needs to make a decision as he’s waiting to hear what USMMA has to say….

Slightly off topic, but is it acceptable for one to sign up for NSI and set up all travel plans when still waiting for Service Academy decisions?

Signing up for NSI now while waiting for SA's is likely not a problem as long as the unit knows that they are 2nd place to SA's. Travel plans will not be set up until closer to right before NSI, so no need to worry about those. As soon as you are awarded a appointment, don't forget to update the NROTC unit and cancel your NSI spot.

Son received his NSI assignment today.

Anyone else?
My DS received notification via email yesterday that he was to attend NSI 2 (late June into July. We sent it Priority Mail as per instructions on Thursday. His package was complete, including the school. (However we may have to change the school). Based off their response, the school is important because the school makes the travel arraignments.

Anyone going to the graduation? We might if it’s a common thing for parents to do. Thank you.
