DoDMERB uses the Medical Standards for Appointment, Enlistment, and Induction. Except for some vision standards, these apply to all for a DoDMERB determination.
Services and programs within Services, may grant waivers. These waivers decisions "may" end up being different for an Academy and an ROTC program within a Service AND between Services.
The technical "processes" for waivers are ALL different for the Academies and ROTC programs. To be reviewed for waiver consideration however, applicants are not required to do anything AND procedures are as follows:
1. All Service Academies = If determined by DoDMERB to NOT meet medical standards AND if determined by the respective Admissions offices to be competitive for an offer of appointment, Admissions will deirect their medical folks to consider a medcial waiver.
2. All 4 year ROTC programs = If determined by DoDMERB to NOT meet medical standards AND if offered a scholarship, all applicants will be considered for a medical waiver.
3. All ROTC Campus Based Scholarships = If determined by DoDMERB to NOT meet medical standards, the applicant's Commander determines if he/she will request waiver consdieration on behalf of the applicant.
4. "If" a person doesn't apply to an Academy and/or ROTC program, that is the ONLY guarantee that a waiver will NOT be issued.
