Earlier last week, a BGO came to my school to talk to the counselors about promoting USNA. My counselor told this BGO that I have already applied and am waiting to here back from USNA. Then today my counselor got an email from the BGO saying that I have been accepted to NASS 2010!! WOOT WOOT!

Are you aware Naval Academy Admissions is holding an event this Saturday March 20th in Alameda on the USS Hornet?

He probably is from my area but he's not my BGO. LOL. He told my counselor that not a lot of females from the West Coast apply to USNA so I think that gave me an edge.

Haha I was just wondering if sending my BGO an e-mail could get me any information. And I am a female on the West Coast as well so hopefully that will help. :shake:

Thanks MIDNDAD! However, I think I went to this same event in October last year on the USS Hornet as well. It was very interesting and great information BTW!

Congrats NorCalGirl!!!! I see you are also attending USAFA summer seminar. My son will also be going to USAFA SS and he's going to session 3.
Keeping fingers crossed he'll get accepted to NASS.
Do you know which session you were selected for NASS?

Hey, small world, I was there too! We probably saw each other at some point during the day...
 
NCG, same event maybe, but still another good opportunity to show your commitment to attending USNA. My DS when to as many of these events as possible. One thing was clear to me, the attending UNSA Regional Director took attendance through "request for information" cards and strongly recommended everyone in attendance fill one out (you've gotta wonder why). They want to know how interested you really are. Interested enough to attend these events?

I recommend strongly that you go if you can. Take the opportunity to shake hands and personally introduce yourself, let them know you're interested in attending THEIR Academy, that you've been selected to attend NASS and how much you're looking forward to it (or how great is was to be there [event post NASS]). Take the opportunity to ask what else you should be doing or if there's any other information you need to get in. Also ask about their experience in the military. The goal is to get them to know you personally, not just another application in a pile (without being a nuisance) and why they should select you to attend.

I found that the USNA RD was extremely helpful when it came time to get teachers or counselors recommendations sent in (even if they can't get the information moving they will know that's it's not from lack of effort on your part). Hint: this part of the process can be very frustrating.

I just think you should reconsider going to the SA information forums as much as possible. My DS resisted too, but soon saw the benefits. The USNA Regional Director looked him up at NASS. They will know who you are.

And most of all, have fun at NASS and best of luck on your application!

They like to hear from you as much as you like to hear from them.
 
Folks, please don't call your BGOs to find out if you've been admitted to NASS! Seriously.

We don't get notified of NASS acceptances. I'm not sure how this BGO heard . . . it could be he called CGO about this candidate. But it is NOT routine. And, with 3,000 BGOs, USNA doesn't really want all of us calling about every possible candidate.

Moreover, we don't even know who from our area has applied to NASS unless the candidates themselves tell us. We will know who was accepted come May 1 or June 1 -- whenever USNA decides to upload the Class of 2015 information onto our systems. Not until then.

Patience everyone. Hard as it is, please be patient.

I agree there is some merit to this line of thought. This event is being hosted by Naval Academy Admissions Outreach. While some of the NOrCal BGO's will be at the event they are not the hosts.

My opinion is the more contact you have with the academy the better. You are putting a face and more data points about you as an individual than what is written on the application forms. While it can be debated how important this is or is not, the main point is it can not hurt. " Desire" is one of those intangables that does not traslate well on a form but can be demonstated with facetime.

I disagree with this. This is a very common misconception for both the SA's and civilian schools. I think that attending events like this are a great thing to find out more about the academies, but that's it. It isn't weighted in admissions what so ever. Filling out canidate cards is not for "attendance," its to send you recruiting information. They want YOU to fill it out so they can send YOU information and get YOU to apply. Now if you speak directly with the regional director and he/she gets to know your name, that is another story. But it has absolutely nothing to do with filling out information cards.

If, for example, you atttend two events and fill out a card at each...the data entry person is just going to toss the second card bc they already have your information. I doubt there is a central database that tracks who has been to what events.
 
I agree Goldfarb1, they don't actually take "attendance" that's for sure. But it is my experience that at the forums I did attend the representative was the same person each time. Of course they develop a mailing list from these cards and of course these are not the people from the Admissions Board, but when you have the opportunity to speak with someone I think you should take it. You can never know what influence they may have.

I wouldn't go this far for a civilian school, that's a whole different type of competitive process.

I'm just suggesting not to pass up the opportunity if you you can attend. I think it's beneficial.
