USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

My 2 cents on NASS....I was told by some Mids at Inspire that when kids go through SS they either hate the NA or they are all in want nothing but......So it is a great recruiting tool but, also weeds out some that really don't know what they are getting into....my DS would not even apply anywhere else after attending....he was all in......in summary it's more for the applicants than the NA IMO

Same with ours.

I have been mostly focused on the USCGA thread but since DS is now on USNA waitlist, I have spent a significant amount of time on these USNA forums (ok, like way too much time). I’d just like to say that I would love to sit down and have a drink and discussion with most of you. You all really know how to keep a conversation going.
I have learned so much and appreciate all of the wisdom and experience that everyone brings to this forum. I find myself rooting for so many of these kids who I know so little about - and appreciate the support and dedication of the parents. I wish I had found this forum sooner - and DS #2 (who is 12), should consider himself lucky if he decides to go the SA route. I should be an expert by then, right?!

I agree with that, we had similar experience with USMA. In retrospect I think it is better that DS wasn’t picked for WP.
really strange, USMA has been so nice to DS --- FFR offered him mock interview for nominations, admission gave him early July LOA, the extended two months, three army officers helped him with BB throw (the only event that delayed his CFA passing). I guess he really should go to USMA for such wonderful welcoming !

IMG_0585.jpeg2 years ago I got this mail from the Naval Academy. I didn’t think much of it. I also wasn’t considering the military at the time. (I was a sophomore in high school) now I’m a senior waiting for a response. It is crazy how much changes in 2 years.

Still pending in IN district 9. Staying positive and hoping for an appointment. It is what it is, and praying for him to accomplish his dreams. Plan B is USMMA and then The Citadel.

A giant congratulations to all those getting appointments, NAPS and the waitlist.

Great job for all these young people that are pursuing their dreams, putting themselves out there and having accomplished so much in their young lives.

Since part of the name of this group is speculating.....here is what I can see happening tomorrow..... and I know this is a wild guess...we have a whole bunch of people in admissions who have had to endure some very difficult work the past few months....and it has grown even more demanding the past few weeks....We may not even really appreciate how hard this work is....I am sure the weight of decisions that they know are crushing souls is painful ....if I lead this team.... I would allow them to pick several TD's out to hold until the end.....now I am not sure how many of these get appointments.....but it sure would make some of the staff feel good to change some lives and pulls some diamonds from the scrapheap...end this process with the staff feeling good....again this is all speculation....

I have to say so much of the speculating and analyzing, while maybe a good time filler, is also leading to many inaccurate assumptions.

This is a difficult time for those who got news they didn’t want to receive, those still pending, and those who feel that admissions may have gotten it wrong.

Trying to figure out the minutia of the admission process, magic 8 balls, tea leaves, tarot cards, statistical analysis of a small group (those who post on SA), it’s all pointless in the end.

Hopefully you put your best application and effort into the process. You are in until you aren’t. Admissions is not sitting around rubbing their hands together trying to figure out how to torture candidates the most. Quite the opposite.

For approximately 176-177 years they have done this. And done it well.

If you got a turn down, grieve it, give it a month. Then, if you are serious, reach out to admissions and ask how you can strengthen your application should you choose to reapply (most of that advice is in the forum already).

Even if it was negative, you are talking about a high schooler at a summer camp for just one week. A Mid will only have so much interaction with that camper for that week. Unless the note speaks about criminal acts or really bad ethical/moral behavior. Admissions has to place little value in the Summer seminar Mid note.
My daughter got a message and a text message about her report from her mid at NASS with a very nice story about her and her attitude during that week ...also ranking her a five and saying she's a type of person that the academy would like. She copied and pasted it and put it in her file. She got an loa and she got an
they do in the sense that cadre writes a report on the ki

I think my DS's report from SLE was part of him receiving the VP nom. He was nominated for candidate of the week and also received another award at SLE. He was rejected in February because he lost his slates. Then given the VP nom two weeks ago. His FFR said it was due to "intangibles." It remains to be seen if he will be appointed, but he is back in the hunt.

Also, it counted as his FFR interview, so it has to mean something.
Ironic ..my DD got a vp nom too ( Usafa)

My son, a current high school sophomore, just received one of these. Of all the college mail he has received, it’s the only one he has kept. Maybe I’ll be supporting him in this process soon, as I did just two years ago with his sister. Best wishes to you in your time of waiting! 💙💛⚓
