How many people really get an appointment in mid April?
Aren't we just basically waiting around for a TWE!!:unhappy:

Admissions does not have all offers of appointment complete and will not have them 100% issued until April 15th. Until that time there is hope.

Realisticly some people will recieve good news but the rest get the TWE. Plan B's should be ready to become plan A's.

This is a really depressing discussion thread.

Of course that thread from last year entitled "April is a great month" is INCREDIBLY depressing.

Hang in there everyone. It's still weeks until mid-April! My son's BGO told him admissions was running behind and it could be a while before he heard anything. I was talking to my neighbor who graduated from USNA over 30 years ago. He said he remembers waiting and waiting and waiting . . .got his appointment 29 days before I-day! I guess some things never change:smile:

One phrase I remember vividly from my Navy days was "Hurry up and wait". Some things never change...

This is certainly what none of want to hear at this time...there is still time...we are not sitting around waiting for the TWE, but we ARE waiting for the BFE...let the chips fall where they may...there is not much left to do but wait...and plan out plan B and C to help aleviate the stress..hang in there everyone...it ain't over till its over!!

April 15 IS NOT the deadline for issuing offers of appointment. It is a date that Admissions has set to notify those candidates who no longer are in the running for an offer so that they may pursue their Plans B. There still are at least 2 1/2 months remaining before the Class of 2014 is fully formed. Admissions is proceeding with all deliberate speed given the stakes.

Thank you...your post really puts a new spin on the outlook for appointments. My son NEVER gets on here, and I am glad he dosen't. Although he is realistic, he says "if the Navy wants me, they will let me know, either way." I am glad he dosen't log on here because he is really enjoying his senior year and I don't want him neurotic (like his MOM...LOL) over the Academy decisions.

Keep your chins up all...and thank you for your logic 1964BGO!!

Sorry I didn't mean to depress or offend anyone! Just had a frustrating moment:frown:. We are still waiting and good luck to everyone else who is waiting as well!! I now know April 15th isn't the end. Hope everyone hears some good news!

working the numbers like crazy....2000 triple qualified w/ noms for 1500 spots. 5 SA's (USCGA does not require nom)....according to what I've been reading many applicants apply to more than one academy....I applied to three and am accepted to one. I'm surmising that those who have not yet heard but are triple qualified w/ a nom are in pretty good shape. For example, if I get accepted to X that will free up spot at Y. the question for the BGO's is how many triple qualified candidates with a nom get totally shut out? is there any data on this...

anybody have any ideas on this???

I think there may not be as much duplication as you think because in so many (especially competitive) areas, MOC's won't nominate candidates for more than one academy. I think mathematically, if your numbers are correct (and of course no one knows the numbers for this year outside of admissions), there will still be 500 of the 2000 who will be shut out. Because the 1500 offered appointments include the assumption that some will decline for other academies, ROTC, Ivies, whatever. So that still leaves the around 2/3 to 3/4 chance that I've heard on these boards since the beginning. Better than starting out, obviously way better than those not getting noms or getting DQ'd in some area, but I think the bottom line comes down to about the same. I think the question right now that everyone is asking though is how far are they in the process? How many of those 1500 appointments have already been given out? Because if it's 1200, then there are only 300 slots for the remaining 800 - much worse odds. Don't think anyone knows those answers right now - or if they do, they're not allowed to tell!

I had not thought of it like that until now (sigh).

I just heard from a mom whose son is at CVW this weekend. She said at the parent meeting last night they were told that letters would be received by April 15th. I find comfort in having a date -- we just want to move on emotionally one way or the other.

I recall reading "April is a good month" last fall and thinking those poor people having to wait so long for a decision. After all there must be something missing on their app causing the extended wait. Like most, I thought for sure DD would not be part of any extended waiting process. After all she my daughter and has all the qualities USNA requires, right? Well this site quickly shows she is only one of many with outstanding USNA credentials.

Well here we are writing chapter "2010 April is a good month". Our kids are truly amazing and will do fantastic in what ever path they pursue. Congrats and good luck to everyone

the question for the BGO's is how many triple qualified candidates with a nom get totally shut out? is there any data on this...

For candidates to the Class of 2013, there were 586 who are pursuing plan B.

2,253 fully triple qualified with nomination, 1,667 appointment offers.

2012 has similar numbers:

2,196 3Q + nom / 1,537 appointment offers = 659 "totally shut out."

I truly hope that all the kids who have made it this far feel a sense of accomplishment and honor even if they receive one of those 600-ish TWEs. They truly are great kids, each with their own set of outstanding credentials, and definitely bright futures ahead!!

Luigi, I really think you are one of the best posters of info on this site and I find your info very helpful. But it appears that there are a percentage of triple q'd candidates with a nom who receive more than one appointment. For example, if I get appointed to all three SA's I applied to I could only choose 1. Is there any data relating to how many multiple appointed candidates there are....the later the date gets the more desperate we are for data which we could hopefully relax the thread...just a little.

thanks

I would assume each SA (well, I know they have it as USCGA) has their own data (from candidate/appointee/cadet/midshipman surveys) that shows how many appointments were declined/accepted in favor of/over another SA or even civilian colleges.

I'm pretty sure that USAFA asks on their "decline appointment" form if the appointee is declining to attend another SA, and if so, which one.

As much as it pains me to acknowledge it, the data and statistics I've seen show that more candidates decline USMA, USAFA, USMMA, and USCGA appointments to accept USNA appointments. They win the popularity contest.

I'm sure you have heard the old joke: "What do West Point cadets and Naval Academy mids have in common? They were both appointed to West Point."

I'm not sure if that will alleviate or aggravate your anxiety.

Thanks 1964BGO

An excellent piece of information, Sir.
