Well now that DoDMERB has changed its format, I thought a new thread would be appropriate for these last few weeks of waiting since we can't be DoD"NERDS" anymore. In my case, I think its for the best.

So how is everyone doing? It seems my son and I have switched roles. He is anxious to purchase the things he'll need for going off to the academy (or plan B's-Texas A&M NROTC), and I have become peaceful and still in my thoughts. I think now that his textbooks are on their final chapters, and he see's the countdown to R day starting to narrow, he is really feeling that he wants to know where he will be serving.

Can anyone tell us the scoop on when the delivery of the appointment or TWE (thin white envelope) will be. I know this year is very different from other years because of all the qualified applicants and the massive snow storms, but can anyone give any news if some will be going out before April 15th? I know for me, when I look back on these boards at this same time last year, it could be today, right?

Hang tight gang! -officer

Funny you should ask. Just this past weekend we were looking for some school documents and ran across our oldest daughter's blue folder with the appointment certificate inside.
This past year our youngest received an offer of an appointment during EA (oldest daughter received hers during RA) and was notified in a TWE. She still has not received the blue folder.
The envelope with the blue folder for the oldest daughter was postmarked 18 April 2005 and was large, Academy seal and address in upper right hand corner, rather bulky. We looked back in our records for 2005 and she received the bulky envelope on the 21st of April. (We'll always remember that Thursday afternoon!)
So, there is still hope and still time! We will always remember the afternoon that the BIG envelope showed up for our '09 grad, we drove it to her (she was at a track meet an hour away!). She had no idea why were there; we walked up and handed her the envelope, she did a couple of cartwheels and we are happy to say she ran her fastest times at that meet! Nice way to finish off your senior year!
PS: we live on the east coast, so the mail is not going that far

Well, now that there's no admission status on Dodmerb, I'm actually kinda glad not to have to check it! Once someone posted that it was updated every 10 mins, I got a little to obsessed! Good riddance, I say!

Son is getting a little restless. Friends and relatives are starting to ask "have you heard yet?" and I know he wishes he could say yes!

At least we don't have too much longer to wait! We'll all know something soon!

Keep the faith!

Eeesh! Is Right....

Feel your pain...Even the postmaster knows when I walk in the door at the post office...."Hi...nothing yet but we've got our eyes peeled for him!" You'd think the second time around would be tad easier....Nah....

Now mind you, this was back in 2005.
Oldest daughter (who is now the Ensign) was selected under RA (she was NOT selected during EA) was notified with the BIG bulky enveloped postmarked 18 April 2005.
It was a large, Academy envelope with the CGA seal and address in upper left hand corner and rather bulky because it held the blue folder with the appointment certificate in it.
We looked back in our records for 2005 and she received the bulky envelope at our home address on the 21st of April 2005.

Youngest daughter received acceptance (EA) letter in early December for the Class of '14; blue presentation folder with certificate has not shown up yet. One thing I can say, she's been working out and running. Tells us, "I'm doing this for Coast Guard!"

Texas Family

Hi, I am guessing that your family is residing in Texas since your son's plan B is A&M, which is great alternative. My son also had A&M as his plan B, but plan A worked out and he is a cadet at USCGA. Our family lives on the Westside of Houston near Katy. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Hey Luigi,
Look at the date. I did mentioned this was back in 2005; I know things DO change :thumb:
In any case, it's a very large envelope :shake:

Yes, the appointment notification envelope is still a big one, (USPS Priority Mail) but the "bound" presentation certificate (the hard-back white folder with the appointment proclamation inside) won't come in the first envelope, though.

That has usually been mailed out separately in early May.

All the way back in 2005? In some cases it seems like yesterday, in others it seems like so long ago.

Katy, TX

Bear-

I'm in the Katy area and my student is waiting to hear for the 2014 class appointments. A Taylor student that attended AIM and decided CGA was the place to go.

Hi Bear,

Yes we live in Fredericksburg, TX. My son received AFROTC and NROTC scholarships. He has already been accepted to A&M and received an additional $11,000 scholarship directly from A&M. So for Plan B, he will take his NROTC (he already turned in his AFROTC). However, we are all still wearing our CG hats and t-shirts everyday, and I am currently drinking my second cup of coffee from my CGA mug. So needless to say, we have been very upfront with A&M and told them that if CG comes through, we would need to decline their offer. GO BEARS!

Officer - Where do you get CGA apparel and gifts? I have searched online and haven't found much!

Ging'sMom,

We got our's when the whole family went to CGA for son's AIM week. However I do have a leaflet catolog here for ordering from the exchange online.
www.cg-exchange.com.
I am not a shopper, but I can't resist CG stuff. Have Fun ! -officer

Some nice t-shirts and hoodies at the Academy exchange, but just stay away from the Hawaiian shirt with the cutters on it, it's OVER THE TOP.

There were at the gift shop/exchange during AIM last summer when I saw them. I had my size in my hand walking to the checkout, but when I saw my wife's reaction to it , I had to put it back. She told me we do not live in Hawaii and if I got it, I'd walk back to North Carolina. I can't remember if they were there on last week's beansprout visit or if my son did as his mother told him and kept me away from it by staying between me and the "cool shirt".

Anyhow, some cool stuff there, but didn't get anything except the life jacket can coozie, you know, everyone needs a life jacket for your Bud. Now, if they could make them for my golf balls, everything I do on my day's off would be safe.

Tring hard not to wear too much USCGA stuff, as I'm starting to worry I'm boring everyone at work/church/golf buddies/strangers at the grocery store/stopping people in traffic and telling them how proud we are.

AAAAhhhh!

Now you're all having flashbacks of what the envelopes looked like, how and when they were delivered, what color the envelope is....:eek:I think this is worse than DoD shutting down the line of admission status! LOL!! It's nice to remember and share fond memories....maybe one day I'll be able to do that but for now...we wait for the FIRST BWE then now I guess another follows and they are WHITE with the blue seal sent by the postal service....You all are killing me!!!:yllol: Continue posting though it's nice to read the posts of celebration! :thumb:

We're neighbors

Hi,

We are zoned to Katy Taylor as well, so we're neighbors. I would enjoy meeting you and definetly can share my son's contact info too, which may be of use for your son.

For anyone else in the Texas area - feel free to contact me for local support and insight! The Texas Parent Association for USCGA is very active and everyone is very supportive. In June all the incoming swabs meet in Galveston for a full day of orientation at the CG station. Its a great way to meet your new friends!

Sounds like your son has a great foundation for success eitherway! Texas A&M is not easy to get into, as you know. So I am hopeful that your son is a strong canidate for the USCGA. There are a lot of cadets from Central Texas, and so your son will fit in well with the other Texans. BTW - The Cadets from the East Coast are always teasing my son about being a Redneck. LOL! He's actually not, but he has fun with the label and plays it up!

My son was accepted first to UH, then Texas A&M, and then USMMA. We are still waiting on the USCGA and USNA. He is 3Q'd, but has decided on King's Point over the USNA; so whatever the USNA decides might be superfluous. Our waiting has been fairly easy because he had a number of options open up before christmas including a full ride to UH. He has a couple of Corps Scholarships too. We are going to visit the USMMA this weekend for him to get a look see. In terms of ease of transport back and forth from Texas, the USMMA is clearly the best choice and the sea year may actually win him totally over to the USMMA over the CGA. Academically, I am thinking MMA may be more rigorous that CGA, but at that level of difficulty the difference may not be important. USCGA has been his choice #1 since he went to AIM and he just loved the place. I guess he will have a better handle on it after this weekend. In any event, if it is to be the CGA, we will see you in Galveston.

Objee/Luigi??

Any news on when first round of appointments/rejections are going to be in the mail? Thanks guys.
