West Point employee admits $3M fraud scheme

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- A New York woman who worked in the dean's office at the United States Military Academy at West Point admits defrauding the government out of nearly $3 million.

Bobbie Cyana Ryan, of Highland Falls, pleaded guilty Wednesday for her role in a scheme to divert payments from the academy to a bogus corporation she controlled.

The 51-year-old Ryan was responsible for coordinating information technology training programs for West Point staff.

A routine audit led to the discovery by Army investigators that Ryan used government purchase cards to authorize $2.9 million in payments to CWG Enterprises for training that never happened. Investigators say Ryan transferred money to her personal account.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 19, and Ryan faces up to 40 years in prison and a fine up to $5.8 million.

Wow, not good. Robbing West Point.

WEST POINT, N.Y. — A civilian U.S. Military Academy employee who defrauded the government out of $2.9 million has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

Bobbie Cyana Ryan worked in the West Point dean's office and was responsible for coordinating information technology training programs. The 51-year-old Highland Falls, N.Y., resident pleaded guilty in October for scheming to divert payments from the academy to a bogus corporation she controlled.

Ryan was sentenced Tuesday at a federal court in Washington, D.C., to three years and 10 months in prison. She also faces three years of supervised release and must pay the money back.

When I first saw the tag I wondered if it was the red-haired girl a the bookstore!

Four year sentence? That's light...

Not only did she defraud the gov't. That's our tax dollars!

Agreed...to me, I think 20 years sounds more appropriate for a crime like this one

I can't help but laugh when I hear stories like this...I know money changes people and its always tempting when its just right there, but don't people EVER realize that they'll get caught sooner or later? In this day and age its nearly impossible to get away with elaborate crimes like this - I just cant fathom why you would do something so stupid.
