Thought we should start an April Board watch for those of us still waiting.

Good luck everyone! Keeping our fingers crossed!

Thanks Tina....
Still waiting and praying for our daughter, was told by CC & the school scholarship officer that much movement after this final baord - also campus based scholarship's are same, just a different pot of $$.
Good luck to everyone!!!

My son emailed his #1 school to find out if they know his scholarship status and if there are any scholarships available. They replied with " just reviewed the results from the final ROTC Scholarship Selection board. Unfortunately, you were not selected." Does that mean he wasn't picked for March or at all? Isn't there an April Board going on now? Or does the school already know that they didn't pick him for April?

Wow - hope that doesn't mean they've wrapped up April already! Surely it doesn't happen that fast.

I went ahead and emailed Cadet Command to see what the status of the April board is, and I also asked if my son's application was up for the April board. I hate to be one of "those moms" but I'm tired of waiting!

I didn't want to bug them either, but since it wasn't even clear if the March results had been posted, I emailed over the weekend. Here was the CC response yesterday morning:

Your file was boarded in Oct but you were not awarded a scholarship at that time. Your information will be forward to the April board.

I'll see if I can find out when exactly the April board is.

So, I wonder if that means that if you weren't awarded at an earlier board, it automatically goes to the last board? I thought those that were passed over automatically went to the next board.

Everything is about as clear as mud. LOL!

Let us know what you find out.

I 'assume' our son has been before every board since October (since that's how it's supposed to work), but who really knows? The PMS's we have spoken with indicated that was the case as well, but CC definitely doesn't win any awards with clarity, that's for sure!

This is what was explained to us. I can't say for sure that this is how the system works. Just say that this was the example that we were given.

The application packet OML score is taken into consideration after each board meets if you are not awarded a scholarship. Once you "are boarded" you are not boarded again. In other words, your OML score stands with the exception of higher SAT/ACT automatically upping your score.

My son's application was seen at the OCT and DEC boards and he was not awarded a scholarship but was at the JAN board.

This is how it was explained to us by numerous people.
Think of it this way,
1) 200 applications were seen at the OCT board and all were assigned an OML score. Cadet Command decides that all of those with a score of 975 out of 1000 were being given a scholarship this round. 50 were given scholarships. 150 were then put a a list by OML score and kept for the DEC boards.

2) 300 more applications were then complete and seen by the DEC board and assigned an OML score. This was then integrated with the 150 from the OCT board. Now the list is 450. Cadet Command decides that this time around they are going to award those with a 925 and higher a scholarship. 100 are now awarded scholarships so therefore 350 are then put on a list by OML and kept for the JAN board.

3) 1000 more applications were then complete and seen by the JAN board and assigned an OML score. Again, integrated with the 350 from the last go round and you now have 1350 on the list. CC now decides that all of those with an 850 and higher will be awarded a scholarship and on it goes.

That is why getting the applications in earlier can be a good thing. Even though you don't know which schools you are in, the applicant pool isn't as large and therefore your odds may be a bit better.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the information we were given by Cadet command, a supervisor and a PMS.

Just received email from PMS at son's 1st choice April board covenes today.

Thanks for the explanation cjs. I thought that's how it worked as well.

Yes - that is exactly how it was expalined to us.

For this year however, I was told that the "bar was not lowered yet." In other words - if they set it at 975 for the first review, they did not lower it yet. The PMS at my son's number 1 school shared that with us before the March review board.

Does anyone know if it's possible to find out one's OML score?

It had to have been lowered a bit. Otherwise how did they pick who received the scholarships in the boards?
My son didn't make the cut for the OCT and DEC boards and we were told he was right below the number. In order for him to have gotten one in the JAN boards they must have lowered the score somewhat.

That is what the PMS told me last week - but it sounds like they did lower it - so that is good news.

They way I understood it was, the new applicants for each board were above the cutoff score forthe previous board, so there was no need to lower it.

As we all know, the process is a bit of a mystery. I am thankful for this forum to share and gather information.

TY!

Son followed that up with:

Thank you for your prompt reply. Are you referring that I was
not selected during the April Board going on this week or that I was
not selected during the March Board? Are there any scholarships left
at the school? Also, if I don't receive a 4-year ROTC scholarship, how do
I qualify for a 3-year scholarship? Are there any campus based
scholarships?

Their reply:

The last board was in March for this school year. Currently, all
allocations for 4-yrs-ROTC-scholarship are filled, which include
campus-based scholarships. You can apply for a 3 year scholarship
while you are here.

I'm confused.
HOw can that be? The last Board is going on NOW. If he wasn't picked just tell us, which they did. I guess it would be possible for him to receive a scholarship during the April board for the other schools he put down, right? but they made it sound like there are no more boards, but that's not correct.

You are so correct, 5-9 April is the last National Army ROTC board. Sounds like the school is a bit confused, don't give up yet as there is alot of movement after this board and everything falls into place. The school may NOT have any scholarship left but they can request from CC to give them more or campus based scholarship (same but different pot of money), any way good luck and don't give up:thumb:

I would guess that the unit you were talking to had its last scholarship accepted from the March board and for that unit this year is complete as far as that unit is concerned.

At this point, the only opportunity for that school is next year per their reply. I don't know about their current scholarship awardees, but if for some reason they leave the unit (get off a waitlist somewhere else, go SA, etc.), that school could have scholarships come available that they can award. I wouldn't necessarily burn any bridges, but I also would not hold out waiting for something that may (and probably won't) happen. If the ROO thought s/he had a scholarship awardee who had a SA slot coming, they would give you the heads up.

At this point, I'd advise moving onto the next school on your list to see if they have anything left to award and let them know that #1 is out of scholarships and you'd take anything available.
