Candidate number

Only if you're considered to be an official candidate for admission.

From what I know, only those deemed competitive receive a candidate number (including everyone accepted to NASS).

Yes, and even if you weren't accepted to NASS, that does not mean you still can't be considered an official candidate. If you're qualified (based on info from NASS app or pre-lim app if you didn't apply for NASS), they will send you your candidate letter.

Mid June. Mine was waiting for me after I got back from NASS(Session One). Make sure you do as much as you can ASAP and get your teachers to fill out the info before they leave for summer. Trust me, trying to hunt them down during their summer break is a b.... Also, as soon as your fill out 5 of the USNA documents, you get a letter for DoDMERB. Get that appointment done ASAP so you're not waiting around for medical clearance.

LOAs do not come for everyone, so don't sweat about getting one.

Best of Luck

What info should i get from teachers. Also Who gets LOA. SHould i have everything turned in before AUgust

Jake, LOA stands for letter of assurance. USNA sends these out to some people that have applied for admission to the academy. However, I've seen from a lot of different threads that just b/c you get an LOA does not mean you are IN.

And by info, I think they meant getting your recommendations and transcripts together. The earlier you send in a completed app, the better. Don't be afraid to ask your teachers for your recommendations before the school year is over. You will need recommendations from both an English teacher and a math teacher.

All those applying be aware that USNA asks for the teachers' recs to be done ONLINE on a specific form that will be emailed to them.

When you get your candidate number and log onto your CIS page, there will be a spot for you to supply an email address for your Math teacher and English teacher. They will also want an email address for your guidance counselor or another school official who will be able to verify your activities and academic information. So, before school lets out for the summer, talk to these teachers and your counselor and let them know what's going on. They'll need to provide you with an email address that they will check over the summer. USNA will send them an online form that they will fill out and email back to Admissions. You can also check with the teachers to see if they've received the form and if they have any questions. Once the recs have been received by USNA, your CIS page will reflect the date.

It is to your advantage to get as much of your application completed over the summer as you can, especially your DoDMERB physical and eye exam. We had to drive to a doctor 2 hours away, so it would have meant a day of missed school time if our son had waited until the fall. :thumb:

I will get all that info. Is there any info that is just good to have. Also when should i fill out my NOmination Application. And how good will Boys State look

From what I've heard, Boys' State is definitely a plus to have on your app. It shows the academies leadership, etc... I'm not sure where I found the statistics, but a significant portion of the Class of 2013 participated in Boys' State (9%?) I'm not entirely sure, but make it known that you did Boys' State!

As for the timing, get everything done AS SOON AS YOU CAN! If anyone out there has a password for their candidate number, let me know. I've tried accessing the CIS System, which is where you do your application. Get your nomination papers filled out NOW, and make it known to your senators and congressmen that you are interesting in applying to USNA. Find a way to stand out (in a good way) because there will be a lot of other people that are just as qualified on paper.

Maybe it's not available to us yet. Maybe we get that information after we receive our actual candidate letters?
