WAIT LIST Question - A Slightly Different Question

Q. Does anyone here have knowledge of ANYone - say, in the last 5 years - that was actually appointed off the WAIT LIST?

Two years ago a young man from my sons' high school (in California) was wait listed and received the call in early June, just before graduating from high school. He had already accepted at a university, but immediately accepted at the Academy. It does happen.
 
On June 10, 2013 my son received the call from our congressman's office with the news that he would be receiving his appointment from the USNA. Three days before graduation. Quite the graduation gift. I'm very proud to say that my son who was one of the last to be admitted to the class of 2013
finished his first semester ranked in the top third of his class. Move forward with plan B but don't give up it's not necessarily over yet.
 
Getting off the wait list

Someone from my son's school was taken off the wait list four years ago- they were family friends and were pretty excited when it happened. I could not tell you when it happened but sometime before report date. Hope this helps.
 
USNA confirms it happens. I have no reason to believe they aren't being truthful. However, they also say that everyone on the WL will not get an appt. The number who do depends on the decline rate for appointments. The WL is ~135-150 persons long. The number taken usually doesn't exceed 50 but, again, it's not in USNA's control.

Meant to say he received the call on June 10, 2009 not 2013.
