Have you done OPS yet? If so, what was your experience? If it's on your plate for this summer, have you heard?

Does anyone have any other summer programs which they'd like to mention here? I'd love to hear about them all!

My cadet volunteered for Deployed Ops, so he will be spending the first two summer periods at an air base in Southwest Asia with the deployed forces. His last period will be leave.

I didn't realize deployed ops is for 2 periods... is it always so, Stealth?

Ops assignments just came out for the C3C's... mine is headed to Aviano AF base in Italy for first period.... Now I just have to figure out how to get over for a visit (he has second period leave, so should have time to stick around the Alps and do a little R and R).

I'm heading to Osan AB, South Korea for ops! Should be fun- especially because I have language immersion in Portugal first period and Ops in Korea second. Can you say jet lag?

My son informed me today that he's going to RAF Mildenhall, England for his ops. His is 1st period. Then I believe he is teaching CST 2nd period and leave (vacation) 3rd period. Mike...

Is OPS after sophomore year only or is after sophomore and junior years?

Does everyone do OPS (unless they need academics)?

Yes, Deployed Ops is a two period assignment. That is why cadets who want to do it need to make sure they have their two leadership assignments done beforehand so that they don't have to give up leave during their Firstie summer. Leadership assignments are things like BCT cadre or CST cadre.

christ corps, I think one of my twins is also teaching the CST 2nd period and has leave 3rd. Maybe they'll be together!

I've done Ops twice (because 2010 is just special :shake:)

After 4 dig year: Dover AFB, DE.
We managed to get a 2 day hop to Rota Spain, which was a blast. Unfortunately, I was paired with a rather unprepared contracting squadron for the first half. As I certainly didn't know how contracting negotiations worked, I didn't get to do very much.
Then, I was paired with a support officer who had just returned from Iraq. During the year he was gone, everyone got used to doing his job. When he returned, he didn't have much to do...so neither did I.

Last summer: Elmendorf AFB, AK
We got a great deal on this one. I got an F-15 flight and two C-17 training flights. We toured a whole bunch of squadrons while there. (Didn't really follow anyone for a long period of time, but floating around between squadrons was fun.)
