My son applied to (and was accepted) to the Summer Seminar. Unfortunately a scheduling conflict will prevent him from attending. His current AFA application has the following in the first block and I'm trying to decide if this is what it "should" say for him to eventually get access to the rest of the application. Does everyone's application say the same thing at this point?

Application Status

Your Status:
Applicant* (your application is under consideration)
Your Application is:
Competitive

Mine says the exact same thing and I was also accepted to the Summer Seminar.

Yes, that is what it will say until you receive a nomination or USAFA deems you competetive.

Later,

Brian

What would make them deem you competitive without a nomination? High scores, marks, and ECs?

Yes, that is what it will say until you receive a nomination or USAFA deems you competetive.
It already says "competitive". What does it change to after the USAFA finds you competitive?

Sorry, It will change to candidate. "Should USAFA deem you competitive and/or you receive a nomination, you will become a "Candidate."

Later,

Brian

My son was also selected for SS and his status is the same. We've already sent in the paperwork for his Presidential nomination which the AFA has acknowledged and told us that his status will change to "Candidate" in June based on that paperwork.

Yes, that was what I did. I was a candidate for 6 months after I got the presidential nom in June. The only bad thing is that you will not get an LOA if you already have a nom, but if they really want you they will give you an early appointment.

Later,

Brian

Thanks for the info Brian. Congratulations to you on your appointment and best wishes for continued success.
