It seems as if May 1st is soooooooo far away and then again I'm sure it'll be here before you know it! :shake: I'm hoping everyone is in good spirits and crossing their fingers...our cadet is busy studying & taking final exams...and then the wait continues! How many of us are there? :thumb:

We're with You

Disey - Thanks for opening a new post. My family and son are hanging in there with you. I was wondering if those that are wait list would share there plan B with others. I know that none of us want to enable that plan, but I bet with those remaining in limbo are prepared to temporarily deviate from their primary objective of being part of the USCGA 2014 Class. Also, it might make for some good reading while we all wait with every possible body part crossed.

My son will be off to Maine Maritime Academy with plans to reapply for the Class of 2015. If not accepted in round two, he'll probably stay at MMA and try to get a commission with the USCG after graduating.

Anyone else thinking MMA for Plan B?

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I'm submitting my deposit for UConn School of Engineering (w/ honors) tomorrow. My objective (if not chosen from the wait list) is to exceed academically and stay out of the crazy partying scene that seems to dominate many students' lives there.

PLAN B

Right now his concentration is getting through his finals! 2 down so many more to go! He is currently finishing his first year of PLAN B...Ours is one that doesn't like to wait n' see...Plan B consisted of choosing between Maritime, RIT and Alfred State last year after receiving the TWE from USCGA...all accepted but his choice was Maritime for the military component and another opportunity to pursue a career with the CG. Maritime also has OCS/MARGRAD for USCG available to him once he gets farther along sooooo...in our son's case there could always be a PLAN C....He did all the research before making his decision and sat down with us to "inform us of his options and his decision." Very thorough this one... :shake: Oooh and P.S. that's when he informed us he was reapplying to USCGA and now this is where we are...Go Figure!
In the end...I think he made a good decision and if you were to ask him? I think he'd tell you he has "No Regrets!"
Ask him if he wants an opportunity to attend USCGA if one is available? He'd tell ya he replied the same day of receiving WL notification!! :thumb:

YankeesFan - UConn is a great plan B. What field of engineering are you interested in pursuing?

Disey3 - Is your son a deckie or liken to the bowels of the ship?

It's a tough call because I've been extremely exposed to the sciences in high school (7 classes w/ labs over 4 yrs.). UConn currently has me listed as a Chemical Engineering major. I'm going to ask admissions if there is a grand difference between the schedules of different engineering majors, but I have been instructed that they're all essentially the same for the first two years of undergrad studies.

Plan B

My daughter's plan B is Mass. Maritime Academy. Still hoping for the phone call from CG but is excited about MMA. Went to the open house and realized what a great opportunity it was. Plus her brother is finishing first year at MMA and loves it.

Plan B

My Daughter plan B is down to two choices, Milwaukee School of Engineering or University of Wisconsin Platteville. She will be majoring in engineering and is now in the process of deciding which of the two schools she will attend if she does not get appointed. The schools are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. UW is rural and MSOE is in downtown Milwaukee, she is recruited for Volleyball at MSOE and Soccer at UW. Still wishing everyone luck in getting off the wait list :thumb:

Bozrah0307 found out they too are on WL...

Our son is an engineering major...been ALL over the ship! Also has aviation background...student pilot...

Has anyone heard how many made the wait list? How many appointments?

Plan B

DS was accepted at Cal Maritime which is located up in the Bay Area, Mechanical Engineering; and was "redirected" to UC Merced (inland), meaning it's not one of the five UC campuses he applied to, but a campus that has room. One of his UC choices, UC San Diego (my alma mater!) had 48,000 applications this year for approximately 3,400 freshman spots!! Unreal!! He is also considering community college, but is more determined than ever to reapply for 2015, should that be necessary.

Welcome Aboard Bozrah0307! Join the rest of us finger crossing, toes curled, legs crossed and nail biting parents and families of those who continue to wait! LOL!!:thumb:

My son also received the waitlist letter last weekend. He has turned down acceptance offers to RIT and Univeristy of Binghamton and put a deposit down at the University at Buffalo (Mechanical Engineering). He is planning on reapplying to USCGA again next year.

As an Admissions Partner I would have to say that this was one of the most competitive years ever for admission to the CGA. Many excellent candidates were left out in the end, most of whom made it to the waiting list.

I guess I can say without embarassing him, I interviewed Yankees Fan and I state unequivocably he was among the best candidates I've ever come across, my own son included.

Likewise, the other four candidates I interviewed were very strong as well.

I hope and pray that at least a few of the waiting list candidates get an appointment. Hang in there as long as you can as I have heard in the past candidates getting appointments as late as June.

If you don't make it, work hard at your Plan B. Everything happens for a reason and I'm convinced that most of you will be very successful no matter what you pursue.

I am honored to be part of the process and to be exposed to so many fine young women and men. Good luck to you all!

Nicely put Boss...I feel for these great kids and their families. I wish them all the very best, and if CGA is still the dream, then try again....waitlisters seem to do quite well on round two I believe! :thumb:

My son has received appointments to the USMMA and USNA :thumb:. By the end of this weekend he will have visited both academies and will make a decision as to which one is best for him. He will remain on the CGA waitlist.

fron1530, you must be PROUD! Enjoy the weekend and have a safe journey!!

Just wanted to say thank you for everyone's kind words. I'm pulling for everyone that is left on the wait list. Have a good weekend everyone!

Think I might head down to see Dbl header at Maritime tomorrow if the weather holds...Nothing like a good ol fashion college baseball game to watch your kid play...It's not the Yankees...but it'll do just fine! Enjoy the weekend everyone! Keeping those toes crossed for All of Us! Just think...8 DAYS UNTIL MAY 1st!! :thumb:
