I read in the Permit to Report package that we will have a chance to go to the mid store to get toothbrush, razors, etc. Should we bring these on I-Day? Or just wait and get them there? And it says you can bring an electric razor, but can't use it to the school year? Would it be better to just wait until PPW? And finally with the white boxers, should we bring them on I-Day if we want them, or have our parents send them in a care package? Thanks for the help! Just trying to get everything in order. So much to do, so little time.

Razor

My son has always used electric as well. He started using a disposable just this past winter to get ready. While visiting the academy for CVW he noticed that the Navy issued razor was the same that he is using: Gillette Fusion. In case you want to purchase that type now. Of course, it could change but it seems that is what Plebes are using now.

1. Bring your toothbrush and the Gillette Fusion razor.
2. Have parents bring electric razor PPW.
3. Bring white boxer briefs.
4. Bring compression white compression shorts (will prove invaluable to prevent chafing in white works) - at least one pair and have parents mail additional pairs in 1st care package.

The MidStore sells other brands of razors and sells many brands of toiletries. So, if you don't like what you're issued, either buy something different on your first trip to the MidStore, or have a relative/friend mail you your favorite brand.

we were issued a razor and blades, white underwear, and toothbrush..u could basically show up and be good to go in what ur wearing with ur cell phone and charger

As noted, if you can't afford a cell phone (or don't have one), USNA will provide one for the plebe calls home. I know that, for most people, cell phones are a necessity, but there are people who may not be able to afford them. You WILL still be able to call home -- they'll lend you a phone.:thumb:

Just FYI --
Bring everything they say to bring, but know that on I-Day every single thing you brought with you will be stored away from you, and classified as "contraband."
The Academy will provide every single thing you need, from toothbrush to razors to underwear, although it did come in handy to have extra underwear when laundry lost my bag once.

I also wouldn't worry too much about shaving, I had only shaved with a nonelectric razor twice before I-Day, but I learned fast.

When it comes to personal preferences and such, you can phase back into your preferred underwear and an electric razor, etc once the academic year starts.
