I got my principle nomination today! OK...anytime something new happens, I always end up with thousands of questions. My main are:

1. How many people in total receive these types of nominations?
2. How many slots are reserved for these nominees?

Thanks

Do you mean presidential? I find it hard to believe any congressman or senator has already started their noms...

If it actually is your principle then you are supposed to automatically get into west point assuming you are medically qualified, pass the CFA, and have the grades.

If it is a presidential I believe they have 100 guaranteed spots but basically anybody with a parent in the military can get one. I have heard they are very easy to get.

nope...principle i saw him fill out the forms myself...and he told me, but he isnt submitting it until i finish the application in august, but it is guaranteed to me he said so i am super happy!

EDIT:

What do you mean by "have the grades"? what kind of grades?

I think he means "What are your stats like?"
It's uncommon that you received your nomination this early.
My Congressman doesn't open up applications until early fall.

You're saying that you received the principle nomination from one of your MOC's already for the Class of 2015?

I don't want to appear negative, but......
As the interviews aren't done and it's nowhere near the due date of October 1 to November 1 for your area, who already granted a principle nomination without looking at the many hundreds of other applicants or interviews?

my district only has around one person comming to the office every year...i live in a district with alot of projects and the people there dont care about that stuff usually...idk guys he told me, so I am happy. it would be a different story if i was talking about a sentor...

For grades - There's no specific number, but you should be maintaining at least what you have now. If in example you regularly had B's but dropped down to D's (Unless something drastic happened it would be considered), that wouldn't be keeping your grades.

Taking Honors or AP classes and having good grades is great.

Congratulations on the nomination. Only one person a year for your district? That's really interesting. I wish my district had things to do to keep people busy.

Speaking of early nominations, this guy running for my representative's spot in Congress this year promised me a nomination. I'm only a sophomore. :shake:

My friend said our Rep guaranteed him her nomination for class of 2015 at a political function in February; but it wont be that easy for him:shake:.

Be very careful. Nothing is real until it's in writing. A lot can change. Don't let your guard down.

I'm sure that my representative candidate was only joking. Well I'll assume he was anyways. I don't even know if he finished his nominations papers yet.
Actually I would hope that he wouldn't just give me. I want to earn one myself. And go through that fun process.

Sorry to take your thread off topic, Szpieg.

Anyway I just remembered this thread that might be an informative read, if you havn't seen it.

I am still puzzled. I saw that you are from Brooklyn....so in all of Brooklyn only one person a year has an interest in going to West Point? Does this mean your MOC will not accept applications from anyone for the Class of 2015?

brooklyn has like 5 or 6 districts...but my district isnt a place of patriotic people, mostly people who only care for themselves and their families. probably most of them have never heard of the school...all i know is that the office that i went to, gave out a nomination to one person to USMA last year and he got in...he will accept more people, but it is very unlikely that someone will come...also, i did not know him or anyone there, i just had a very inpressive profile he said.

Wait....What? That is REALLY unusual. Most MOCs don't start handing out their nominations till fall at the earliest....

It is unusual but this is an "unusual" district.
It is entirely possible that this MOC has multiple openings - a few MOC's don't have any candidates at one or more academies.
He is probably really thrilled to have a viable candidate.

Szpieg - Please realize that the USMA admissions board needs to qualify you. You also need to pass your DoDMERB physical as well as the CFA.
If any of that falls through, there is nothing your MOC can do.

That said, you should proceed and aim to get your application done early. Be in tough with your Regional commander or other admissions rep. Work with them and do what they tell you.
I strongly suggest you get on the train and visit admissions in person. Get the tour and have a sit down with an Admissions officer.
Good Luck!

That's great, Szpieg - Congratulations! In a district like that, how did you hear about it and get interested? And - just curious- are you in Greenpoint? Public or private school?
Often if the counselors are unfamiliar with the process, things can slip. Visiting admissions is a great idea.

Well my essay says why I want to go and how I heard about it...I go to a crappy public school...

are you a candidate or an appointee or a cadet?

Parent of appointee, long-time graduate of not-so-crappy NYC public high school a few blocks from the Polish National church on East 6th Street, with lots of Polish relatives (by marriage-I'm not) -in Greenpoint and Middle Village.
Also working in my volunteer life with less-good public schools where I live now,and wondering about how to effectively mentor kids with potential for college. Somebody did the right thing to help you and broaden your horizons; how do we make that happen for other kids?
