Hello all! I am applying to ROTC programs as an alternative to the SAs. All the information on the forum has been very helpful!

I was wondering when should I submit my application by in order to be considered for the first possible boards for NROTC Marine Option and AROTC. A Navy recruiter said to have the NROTC application in by the end of May, but the Marine recruiting office wants to wait to talk until I turn seventeen next week. Is it different for the Marine Option? AROTC?

Any input would be appreciated.

November is the first board for Marine Option and August is the first board for Navy Option (99% sure on these months, but I maybe wrong). As with anything involving military applications, the early bird gets the worm. I would shoot for the end of the summer. I've got most of mine done, just have to write the essay and make sure my counselor gets her recommendation in.

Now the recruiter you spoke with was most likely for enlisted, as they want to talk to you once you turn 17 (earliest one can enlist). The average recruiting office you see does not handle ROTC.

Do NOT wait until you are 17. There is no need to do so.
Get everything submitted ASAP.

A couple of hints:
Transcripts:
You will need to get your official transcripts sent. Go see your guidance counselor asap about this - different schools have different policies and at some high schools it's impossible to send them in the summer.
Generally after your junior year, if your school ranks the class they will rank it then. Ask your guidance counselor to send official transcripts in once they are ready (final grades posted and ranked) - in June.
Emphasize that this cannot wait until August/September.

LOR's:
See your teachers NOW about the proper recommendations and get them NOW! Before they leave for the summer. Otherwise you won't get them until late Aug, early Sept.

Wow, great responses! Thanks to you both, just what I needed to know.
