I was hoping someone could provide some insights as to the type of questions that will be asked during an interview.

My daughter completed her NROTC application a few days ago and was contacted for an interview. It will be this Thursday.

Needless to say she is nervous and very excited at the same time! The person contacting my daughter said that he didn't want to hear any "canned" answers.

Thank you for your responses in advance!

Make sure your daughter does her research on the Navy. Tell her to have something set in her mind concerning what type of career field she would be interested in. She needs to know about Surface Warfare, Submarine, ect ect. She will interviewers, especially for the Navy tend to like it when the person they are interviewing know what they want and know about the Navy and what it has to offer.

The questions are going to be about her goals and plans. MAKE SURE THAT SHE DOES NOT MAKE THE INTERVIEWER THINK SHE IS DOING IT FOR ONLY THE MONEY. INSTANT DEQUALIFICATION IF THAT IS THE CASE!!!

She needs to sound genuinely interested and it wouldn't even hurt if she added, "I would do this even if I had to pay for college.

Yes, back in Highschool my NJROTC senior PMS a Commander is an interviewer for NROTC scholarships. When I went for my interview he told me not to lead the interviewer to believe that I was doing it for the money. He told me that the interviewer would make a small note and not give you a good recommendation for the board. The military wants people who want to serve their country and not people who want to go to school for free.

At my NROTC interview, I pretty much said I wanted to serve my country and that ROTC seemed like a good way to do that and pay for college at the same time. I found out I got my scholarship a few days later.

Is that something u should include in my list of questions for my interviewer or my recruiter?

I know this post is old but for anybody that finds it useful I would just like to add that during my interview (and apparently many others), towards the end the Captain gave me what he called, "A golden opportunity," to ask him any question, whether it be private or not. Anything at all.

USE THIS CHANCE. Come prepared with some excellent open-ended questions that will promote more than just a 10 second reply.
