Like Mongo, I am taking this from another thread because it reminded me that many military members do not know of discounts just because you are in the military. I want to spread the wealth, especially since many of our new minted officers will be starting to live life on a 2nd lt salary.

National Stores:
1. Lowe's gives a 10% discount for your entire bill, any day of the week, if you show your military ID (at least in VA and NC).
2. Rack Room Shoes, gives 10% discount
3. Cold Stone Creamery -10% discount

Automobiles (NEW):
Ask if they give a military discount. They may not advertise, but just ask. Our last car we bought, we asked, and they said as long as you are AD, show your ID, you get 500 credit.

Travel:
1. Disney (Shades of Green): It is beautiful and your cost is tied to your rank.
2. Hale Koa: SAME DEAL
3. I think it is called Dragon Hill in SKorea, it is a 5 star hotel.
4.Camp Sites: There are beautiful campgrounds that are dirt cheap. Additionally many MWR's have campers to rent at low cost.
5. Space A: Great system if you look outside of the box...McGuire to San Antonio might not seem like a fun destination, until you realize that San Antonio has the River Walk. Or Shaw, and you realize it is by Charleston.
Never book Space A if you are unable to have a floater for returning.
6. MWR offers tickets to ski resorts, amusement parks at greatly reduced prices.
7. Amusement parks(Busch Gardens) are known to allow military members and dependents in for free, contact MWR and they will tell you.

BASES/POSTS:

Certain bases/posts have very unique aspects.
1. Elmendorf AK: Has a ski resort for the members
2. Hurlburt FL: Has their private beach at Destin

Even if you are on vacation or TDY, you are allowed to use these areas. Make sure you always check MWR for that area to get the best bang for your buck.

One warning:

As a military member you are allowed govt rates on airlines, hotel, and rental cars. Don't leap thinking that it is the best rate. Always make sure you compare. Govt rates are actually tied to supply and demand. It can be beneficial in some areas and costly in others.
http://www.military.com/DC/DealIndex.jsp is the place to go to get more info. 30 seconds of searching can save you big bucks.

A lot of Home Depots will also give a 10% rebate and so does Bass Pro Shops.

If you are into shooting sports/hunting, several firearms manufacturers give significant discounts. I know Dan Wesson and FN have discounts above 25%.

My local oil supplier gives a discount for any household for AD military.

Yes and no. Many places only allow gov't rates (specifically hotels) if you're traveling on orders. Many of our guys have run into issues because they expected gov't rates at hotels for non-official travel and were denied because they didn't present orders. Caveat emptor.
