If one transfers after a year at another college, how are the credits dealt with? I'm asking because it seems that these colleges have very important and unique freshman years like the academies, so I'm sure they don't just let you waltz in a sophomore if your in the ROTC program. Thanks.

You can transfer your credits and can be eligible to graduate in less than 4 years as a result of those transfers, however, regardless of your academic status you are still going to go thru your Rat, Knob etc.. year. At VMI you essentially are always considered as a member of the class you went thru your Rat year with -you just leave VMI a little earlier than the rest of the class. We have a few members of the forum who are in the middle of doing this now ("LongGreyLine" hopeful comes to mind)

Okay, thanks, and is there a way that the remaining three years of my scholarship can also be transferred?

great question and i am also soon to find out!

I got accepted into the citadel after been in college for 2 years and receiving an A.A degree there.

as of now, my log in information at the citadel says "freshmen" but just below that, I have a total of 34 accumulative credit hours, which in my opinion is good and bad. considering that I got my degree with a total of 67 credits.

alot of classes didnt count for me, and im soon to go pay them a visit, and ask them for more financial aid.

btw. this is my first ever post!:thumb:

No matter how many hours you ever The Citadel with, you will be a knob your first year, and an academic freshmen. After that year you will be whatever academic classification that you actually are.

As for the accepted transfer credits, make sure to call the registrar's office. They're incredibly busy right now, with one of the largest classes in school history matriculating, so they could have made a mistake. If some of the classes you took are not offered at The Citadel, then you might not get credit. But it's worth it to ask. I took an Arabic course through joint enrollment and got a general elective credit even though Arabic is not offered at The Citadel.

Colleges and universities will consider for transfer credit courses that you took in the past - that are similar to courses that that institution offers to its students.

As for the unique lifestyle military colleges offer - each institution will have its own policy in terms of what "privledges" you would be provided as a transfer student - and when in the calendar year you would be granted those privledges.

If both of those issues are important to you - I highly recommend that you have direct contact with each institutions Registrar - to check on transfer credit policy - and each institutions Commandants Office to check on transfer student policy.

I wish you well!
