What's most disgusting about desecrating "Old Glory" is that when the s#^tbirds get caught, ACLU lawyers will come out of the woodwork and argue that these individuals were simply exercising their First Amendment rights to "free speech". Sadly, within the last decade, it has become open season on attacking traditional American values of God and Country. Yet, should someone say something that might be construed to be less than flattering about minorities, gays, illegal immigrants, radical muslims, etc, the thought police will do everything possible to have that person brought up on "hate crime" charges.

Case in point---last Halloween someone hung effigies (which I strongly condemn) in a local Frederick, MD park and many in the local area wanted the culprits thrown in jail for "hate crimes". Ironically, effigies of Bush, Cheney, Palin, and a US soldier were examples of exercising one’s First Amendment rights.

Isn't is ironic that when Bush was superimposed as Hitler people were just fine with it. Obama, and the world was inflamed.

I disagree with either of these images, but it is amazing how one is accepted and one is not.

I lay the acceptances of these images by the public squarely on the feet of the media. It is a truly sorry state that our youth get their political knowledge from shows like John Stewart, Colbert, Bill Maher and SNL. Yes, they are funny, but in the end they are not news, they are entertainers. Obama spent tens of thousands building his ampitheatre for DNC, yet nothing was made on the cost of it. He wore a 1500 suit...no biggie. Palin, wears an outfit that cost less and there is a huge outcry! OBTW the media did have a little blurb later on to say the outfits were for the majority on loan. The only time people stood up and took true notice was when SNL did a skit of Hillary against Obama at a debate. She got hit with hard questions and he slept on a pillow. Funny, YES, but sad too! Sad that SNL had to show the world that our new media was very biased in their behavior. Sad that our youth had an AH HA moment regarding our national debates because of SNL.

It truly is vile that the goose has yet to meet the gander.

Say what you will about those programs Pima, at least they advertise themselfs as comedy programs, where as most FOX News and CNN programming don't make the destinction even though they are almost purley opinion shows and not hard news.

Tell me Kero where do you get your news from?

If I didn't say that I watched The Daily Show and Colbert Report whenever I can catch it, I'd be lying, but for real news my personal favorite is BBC world news. They have their slant too, but they report actual news for the most part, it's only when they start talking about issues like firearms that the opinion really starts coming out, but thats more of a cultural issue for them. I'll admit though it is hard to find real news programs anymore, because people don't want to hear it. If it's on a 24 hr "news" network it 95% junk.

Viper - while it will indeed be interesting to see the legal defenses these folks mount when/if they are caught and prosecuted, the story does accurately characterize the issue and crime.

These vandals were not descrating (sic) a flag that they had lawful ownership of in protest. They vandalized another's personal property that also happens to be a symbol of our nation. As such they committed at least a misdemeanor and will likely be legally punished in some way. Whether the jurisdiction and the participants in the legal system who determine the and administer the appropriate punishment should include being more or less "stringent" because the property happened to be a flag is likely going to be a function of who the offender is (past record, etc.) and other conditions like location/local standards, etc. I am a conservative leaning p[populist but I think that's as it should be and in accord with the things that make America great and why I served and did my bit.

I don't see any of this as any sort of creeping change in American Values, etc. Flags have been "desecrated in protest" and public officials hung in effigy, etc. since the birth of our nation - and there has and continues to be public debate about its appropriateness - now that is indeed the real essence of our First Amendment rights.

Anyway - what was/is Rand Paul's position on the issue - :yllol:

Just my 2 cents!

I still think there should be an amendment reintroduced to make flag desecration unconstitutional and illegal  free speech or not, its just wrong.

Or let vigilantes take care of it...
