Sorry if I'm getting annoying guys. Haha.

Anyway, what are they asking for when they say "Please provide a brief explanation of your ethnic/racial heritage." I'm not really sure what they want in there...

Then I'm not sure there is much to say. I believe the question is directed to those who are non-Caucasian. If you're unsure, contact your Regional Director.

I thought so too. But when I hit the next button, it said I had to fix something there.....

Even if you're Caucasian, you might say something about your heritage, ex. ancestry from Germany, or something like that.

Even if you are caucasion, but are a more recent generation (maybe 3rd or 4th at max) you can say something along the lines of how your family came over. I'm a 3rd generation and my family came in through ellis island. I pretty much wrote a few sentences on them coming through ellis island and why they came to America. Didn't make a "big deal" of it, but I did mention it.

i had a question about that to. i'm black but i still don't really understand what they want.

Post the actual text of the question. It'll help us (who haven't seen it) give you better advice.

At first glance, however, it seems like a straight-up question. It shouldn't be difficult to answer.

In my case, I'm white and of Spanish descent through two Cuban parents. That's that. Anything more and we're off into the land of PC BS.

Question from candidate database "Please provide a brief explanation of your ethnic/racial heritage." Limited to 255 characters. I'm African-American and a little confused also.

Okay, you're African-American.

Did your parents immigrate recently from Africa? From the Carribbean? Can you trace your lineage back to the days of slavery? Are you "African-American" because you were born in South Africa (like Charilze Theron)?

It could be as simple as, "I am African-American. My family can trace its lineage back to circa 1874 in the area of what is now western North Carolina. Before that is anyone's guess."

In my case, "I am white and Hispanic. My parents came here from Cuba after Castro took over. My paternal grandparents were from Spain, the rest from Cuba."

All you have to do is play with the maximum length.

They're trying to understand who you are and where you come from, not trying to profile you to screw you over. They are seeking a context and framework into which they will begin placing the pieces of your application. It's no different than asking someone you've just met, "So where are you from?"

ok well that makes more sense. but what does it mean when it says " Have you ever experienced any exceptional adversity that we should know about?" are they asking if you've ever had an racial tension against you or somthing?

I think that question is asking if you had to work to support your family or only had one parent in your household and situations similar that could affect your performance and participation in other aspects of the application.

Exactly.

Not everything revolves around race.
