Importance of a Resume?

I think I brought this subject up a while back, but I am planning on including a resume to be sent to admissions in the same envelope with the Activities sheet. Does this sound okay, or will they just throw it away?

If you have more activities that will fit on the form given, then send the resume. If it will fit on the USMA form, then use the form. My opinion is that it is very important to follow the very clear directions given by West Point. It is okay to email or call Admissions to get a definitive answer if your question is not answered by reading the directions. There is a page in the Instructions for Applicants book that directs you to the proper person to contact. Most of my son's questions were answered by rereading the Instructions for Applicants booklet.

Good luck, ExarGanis.

Why are you bringing it up again? Didn't like the response you got the first time? Our responses to you aren't worth remembering?

One of the things one must learn in order to succeed at a SA is the ability to follow directions. I highly suggest that you commence this education by following the directions on the application. Had they wanted a resume, they would have asked for one.

What could ever be better than a detailed listing of your accomplishments? Just because they didn't mention it doesn't mean that one shouldn't include one.

One of our senators requires a resume. Preparing a resume is a courtesy to anyone interviewing you. It will provide a 1-page summary of your academic, EC, and work experience. You can include community service and any awards earned. No, it's not required, but it was appreciated by interviewers on Nominating committees and by MALO's. I also think it shows that an applicant is treating this process in a very professional manner.

I'd like to repeat, if it's not required, you really don't have to develop a resume.

I wanted to use the resume for admissions at USMA. My senator/congressman required one too, so I was wondering if I could do the same for admissions. I guess there is no yes or no answer.

What your senator or congressman requires has absolutlely no bearing on what the academies require. Follow their instructions. If they say to submit a resume, do so; if not, don't.

How many times have we had this conversation?

The Activities sheet that comes with the application, is a bunch of crap. It needs to be seriously redone. They have ignored a ton of other activities that a lot of us are involved in.

They are ignoring a ton of activities that probably have no bearing on their admissions decision.

Exar Ganis -

Wow. OK - let me explain it to you ONE more time.

The fine folks in admissions at West Point KNOW what they are doing. They have been doing their job for a long long time.

FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. READ THE ENTIRE APPLICATION PACKET.
You do not need to send in a resume.
When you completed the initial on-line application there was a box for you to submit anything that wasn't included in the online form. This is your first opportunity to submit activities/awards.

When you sign on to he candidate system there is a link for you to submit information to the Admissions Dept. This is your second opportunity.

Third - you as a candidate are always welcome to call the friendly folks in the admissions department - perhaps you should not call with the attitude you displayed above, however.

Perhaps it is easier for you to make excuses than to follow directions.

LOL - Hang in there, kiddo.....

Next question? One that you haven't asked yet!
