Hopefully I am not the only one who may have new questions that have cropped up! Maybe we could put them all in one place so that the questions and responses are easy to find!

There have been a lot of posts on a different website that talk about addressing letters to our new cadets. We received a letter from admissions that had his new P.O. box which says to address letters to "New Cadet: First Name, Last Name". Is this correct, or should we be addressing letters to "New Cadet: Last Name"?

Although we didn't fly out for R-day with our son, I was able to find a picture of him on the commandant's facebook page. Hubby argued for a bit, but our younger son confirmed my 'mom eye'! We also heard from an upperclass cadet who we've been friends with forever that our new cadet was having a moment while getting his haircut and being drilled from two sides by two different cadre members. He took our new cadet aside and game him some words of wisdom. Hope it helped!

It doesn't really matter. The mail goes to his PO Box and he'll likely have it inspected by his squad leader (I did, and I did it to my squad). The first name isn't a big issue.

Thanks for your reply. On the mail issue, I have one more question if you don't mind.

Our son flew out on his own and only took a carry-on. We sent his leatherman to the P.O. Box. I read that since it may look like contriban that the cadre may open it. Will he be able to keep it, or will it be taken until the end of Beast?

If your son/daughter has a very common last name - then use first names.
This is to ensure proper delivery. As two other NC's shared my daughter's last name I always put her first name on the address.

Cadre will not open mail - that would be illegal. They may sit and watch a New Cadet open mail. My guess is they will let him keep it .......

Our last name is Lee! We gave both of our sons unique (we thought) first names and traditional middle names. Both of them have had issues with others sharing their first and last names.

I'll stick with the first and last names. Thank you for your advice and for all of your answers in the past! As a new academy parent I have found this resource invaluable for information and support!
