Hey I was getting all my stuff around and realized I thought I knew where my SS card was and it's not there. Does anyone know if I absolutely need it or would a passport suffice? Could I send in for a new one and get it in a couple weeks? I really need advice!

Just checked with my DD.

She said you should have your SS # memorized. You'll be tortured if you pull out a card. Sounds like you may be better off without it.

The permit to report package says "All candidates reporting to the Naval Academy for Admission as Midshipmen must have in their possession a Social Security card so that wages may be credited to their accounts."
Sounds like they want the actual card as proof of your SS#.
RascalFlatts - I don't think there's much you can do at this point. Just explain the situation, and I'm sure they'll have contingency plans. It'll be OK! :thumb:

When do you leave? Tomorrow?

This morning go down to your local Social Security office and stand in line. They will order you a new card and give you an official 'receipt' that you have ordered a new card with your SSN on the receipt.
Take that paper with you.

Agree with the above if you have time today. If not, if you have any other ID with your SSN, you might want to take that. I know most IDs no longer use SSNs but you might have some offical document at hand that has the name and SSN.

It's been WAY too long ago for me to tell you whether they actually ask for the card or simply want the number . . .

I don't recall ever needing mine, but it's been a long time. You DEFINITELY want to have yours memorized BEFORE you get there, though.

But hey, once you get your Alpha Code, that's your new name for the next four years. :thumb:

ETA: Do you perhaps have a paystub with your SSN on it?

If you need to do a local walk-in to see what could be done first thing I-Day morning and then dash over to Alumni Hall.

JUST A MOM is correct, the SS office will give you a receipt showing you have applied, I would have this in my hand at a minimum........also, just a mother speaking here......calm down......you probably have it somewhere but are getting a little anxious at this point, focus on something else for a few minutes.......it will probably come to you where it is....

Even though the documentation stated bring the SS card DD reported to I-Day at the USAFA with a passport in hand and her SS# memorized. We forgot the card at home. It was no problem.

Well you're not the only one who made a mistake, I think I sent my immunization questionnaire with the May 25 packet... If I don't have this, does anybody know what will happen?

Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies, I ended up applying for a new SS card here in Annapolis, I just couldn't find my original. I'm also bringing my passport just in case, thanks again! And since this will probably be my last post before tomorrow I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum who has helped me or given me advice. This forum has been a great blessing and I hope to get back to you in the fall when I get computer access!
