Hello parents and friends of the Class of 2014 (Like a machine!) Curious if anyone has received a letter from their Basic yet? We have not and have to settle for finding pictures on WebGuy which is fun as we have a nice collection of shots of him marching and eating (and marching and eating). Guess he's doing a lot of marching and eating! Hope your Basic is surviving Beast! Tell him/her to hang in there and the cadre can't stop time or hit them!

Letters

We got 2 today, but we live near the Academy. He sent them Sunday -- they were postmarked 28 Jun. They hadn't been to check their mail, yet. I know they checked today...some yesterday.

No letters received yet here in Nor Cal. We enjoy seeing the pictures we have found so far. Wife is anxious for that first letter (ok I am a little bit too).

Nothing here in NC yet either. I'm really not expecting anything until Saturday or Monday.

This would be unbearable if it wasn't for Webguy.

We didn't get any letters, but another Virginia parent (from our same high school as our son) got a letter yesterday. I think my son would rather march and eat than write letters....
Hoping for a letter tomorrow :)

Hey Devildog.....

Happy Birthday!!!

(pretend its from your basic!)

Thank you so much, it made me smile. Also, thank God for Webguy! I got to see my son in a couple of pictures tonite, that was a great birthday present.

Letters? From cadets? Ha ha. Best of luck to others out there, but I do not expect to hear from our cadet until, well, maybe Thanksgiving. We too survive on Webguy, although the first couple of shots were not encouraging. In any event, any correspondence we receive will be a suprise; again best of luck to others!!

My birthday is in January. This last one was my first big "oh my, he's really leaving" moment, when I realized it would be my last birthday with him home with me for...probably at least 9 years!
After that...everything was "the last this" and the "last that." He was glad to get on the plane for I day so he didn't have to hear it anymore!

...once again, my feindish plan succeeded....mwahahahaha! :shake:

I so relate to OBXmom. The last this and the last that. We even had the last meal together. The webguy is a wonderful thing for the mental health. Whenever I see our basic, I at least know he's not sick or injured (Knock on wood) and he's staying strong. As far as letters are concerned, I'm not sure what to expect from him. He was so excited about starting this next part of his life as 18 year olds can get, and wanting to be on his own and prove himself that the letter I hope for might take awhile.

A proud 2014 "Like a Machine" Mom

Another Northern California parent with no letter yet.

The last mother's day was really rough! That's the first time it really hit me that he was leaving and our family would never be the same again. We also did a last meal... DS chose Taco Bell  At least it was close to the hotel. lol

Wahoo, we got a letter yesterday!! It was so great to hear from him!! We were thrilled to hear how upbeat and good he sounded. He seemed pretty positive, which made us feel so much better. Other than very tired of standing all day, he seemed quite happy. Yeah us!! We live in VA. We have seen quite a few photos, thank you so much Webguy!!!

I received at letter yesterday from DD yesterday that started "Come and get me :frown:". It continued like this...."I hate this place, I peed my pants during the AFT but they said I had a good time right before I puked, there is so much yelling, I can't remember all the names, I miss you, they made me cry, I'm tired, sad and lonely, 2 min showers and not enough food cos we have to remember all these things before we can eat..."

Needless to say I was a bit sad with the tone of her letter but she concluded with..."I have to do this for MYSELF "

I guess she will be OK.

Our first letter arrived Monday (when we arrived home), but we live in New Mexico just one state away. Basic sounded good, but mentioned that he'd already lost his voice (this is actually a great tragedy for him :thumb:) Keep watching that mail, I have the feeling the cadre are "encouraging" letter writing. Remember to send your letters as frequently as possible and keep it positive, I think the Basics will appreciate any communications from home :shake: Go Falcons!

first letter arrived today!

Smiling from ear-to-ear here in SC! Our DS sounded good - things are not too bad and said "it's 90% mental" - tired but pushing through! Plus pictures from webguy and I can make it another day too!!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, we received our second letter today. He was so excited they got to make their beds then do flutter kicks in them:wink:

Basically pretty upbeat, he said the placement test were his favorite part of that day - no yelling!

No letter yet in AZ. Not really expecting any, Webguy is my lifeline!!! Pictures are very serious but at least I see her everyday and she looks ok
