Putin boasts new jet fighter better than U.S. plane

Interesting. I don't think it really matters, since the rest of our armed forces are way more numerous and advanced than there's, anyway. This of course assumes that he's factual.

It's better that way.

After all, America has been an imperialist power for so long, it's about time that it was cut down to size.

I support Barney Frank's proposal to slash the military. Besides, we don't need that much firepower because after all, no one out there is innovating THEIR military. No one we need to worry about, anyway.

Right?

Now I do not fallow aircraft development, but are we not working on our 2nd series of 5th Generation fighters to enter production in the F-35?

Last I heard, they were putting a stop to production. Am I wrong?

Yeah…I am worried

I still am, for any number of reasons....

The F-22 was stopped at 187 jets, which I think is already more than the Russians will build for themselves. Who knows how many F-35s we'll end up with at this point.

But in the grand scheme of things does it really matter what the Russians have? Its not like we're going to fight them. I'd be more worried if they export these fighters to some not-so-nice govts like Iran, Venezuela, PRK.

Are you too sure about that? It seems pretty hostile if he's boasting that it's better than what we have.

Anyhow, bring it! :rocket:

I wouldn't call it hostile, per se. Watch the military channel and you'll hear US servicemembers stating that every piece of equipment we have is the best in the world. It may well be better, who knows. Virtually every German tank was leaps and bounds better than a Sherman from an engineering and firepower standpoint. But they aren't speaking German in France, so there you go.

I read somewhere that it took like five Shermans to take out a Tiger. Towards the end of the war, though, it didn't really matter how great the Tiger was, as the Germans didn't have very much gasoline. Big thanks to the Army Air Forces and their strategic bombing campaign for that one (as well as the RAF).

Bullet works on the 35 program, and the answer is NO, the 35 is alive and well, it is correct that the 22 will close its production line at 187 jets.

As it was stated this is slated to come online in 15. Anybody who has worked around the military knows that slated does not mean it will be there on that due date. Secondly, how many will come online in 15? Will it be like our 22 where it is really only one operational squadron in 15 with pilots that are not MQ yet? I am not quaking in my boots in fear over that thought, mainly due to the thought by the time they are up to snuff our 22 pilots will have hundreds of hours under their belt compared to their minimal amount. By the time they have hundreds of hours we will have hundreds of 35s for their minimal amount in case of conflict. Putin is all bark no bite, and the world knows it.

Additionally, the 35 is being sold to our counterparts at much higher level than the Russian's jet. The beauty of selling the 35 is we have control over supplying them upgrades or parts. Take Iran for an example, they bought our jets and now they sit on their runways rusting because they can't get the parts from us to fix them.

Also, if you go back in military aviation history you will realize that before one new generation hits the runway we are already building its replacement. Look at the 15, 16, 117, 15E and 22 as examples. Ten will get you twenty before the 35 hits the operational world full force there will be a 6th generation being tested for inventory purposes at Edwards AFB, heck we might even have the 1st FW flying the 6th generation.

I would almost bet my retirement check that the 6th Generation at Langley in the 1st will be a UCAV.

I think the '35 is it for the manned fighter.

Just my humble opinion (said the fighter pilot with tears in his eyes)

Yeah, but we don't have our President or Prime minister or whatever, a political, not military leader, going around boasting about their country's military strength.

Putin might practice judo.

But Obama is a Tae Kwon Do master.

He's just doing what every other country's leader does: sells their country's product as the best in the world in the hopes that other countries will buy it. In this case, Putin is just acting as Russia's Salesman-in-Chief. Unfortunately for him, he's wrong in his boasts.

Why doesn't Obama (and every President for the past 30 years) feel the need to do this? Well, 1) he has an entire staff to do this for him, and 2) He simply lets our combat record and the reputation of how well our military hardware performs against THEIR stuff do the selling for him.

I would have said the same thing until recently, then I participated in the start of the 6th Gen Study a few weeks back, representing the HAF. For obvious OpSec reasons, I won't say anything else, except that all options remain on the table...

Still, it seems pretty aggressive.

I have always been told the next thing that would happen in that scenario is after the beer is finished he'd have to kill you!:wink:

Nah, probably not.

We'd be too busy trying to determine who could hold more: the driver or the director, who's more important (GIF or GIB), who can shoot down a Rolex better...eventually we'd be just too tuckered out to kill each other.

So we'd have another beer! :beer1:
