Hell's Bells! - R-Day Video

Thanks for posting this. I am glad I hung in until the end. My son is in there towards the end.

You bet they laid out the TA 50 for the new cadets. They laid it out for each new cadet before the maid service came in to make up the beds and tidy up the closets.

Corps has...

Grafitti found carved on wall in basement of Thayer Hall:

You mean the New Cadets' horses have actually been shoed?

Darn, the Corps Has...

Haha! I distinctly remember carrying it all in a giant blue bag, and dumping it on my floor just in time for my squad leader to bust in and scream at me to "Unf*** this abortion!"

I wonder if the gear laid out had anything to do with the temperature and humidity?
Only a few new cadets had the big blue bags (very few and I was looking for them) and I was all over the central area during the morning. I was even fortunate enough to see DS strolling up the Thayer Hall Bridge with only a duffel bag on his back, sans the big blue bag. A few of the other new cadets had two duffel's but I suspect that's because DS checked in the night before with the prepsters and dropped some gear off

scoutpilot,

You'd love the air conditioning in the new barracks.

Regarding carrying everything. . .

On R-Day, the issued items were carried in green duffle bags. On R-Day+1 they additionally had a blue bag to carry with additional issue items according to some of the posted picture seen.

They're probably getting so much stuff that two bags are no longer enough

Ahh, so it's harder now as compared to scoutpilot's era? :yllol: jk :shake:

BTW, this ain't hard, try USMC Boot camp at Parris Island for 13/14 weeks back in prehistoric 1979

How many jarheads does it take to change a light bulb? Three. One to change, and two to talk about how hard Parris Island was.

They probably carry their bags on R-day for them now. WP probably hired a platoon of former cruise ship stewards to carry their bags and clean their rooms!

Harder? No way!

We all know that "the corps has..."!

Well, they can't prevent them from eating now. That would have been a nice rule to have, but that change didn't happen until Beast 2002.

The Corps always has...it's how it works.

Right

BTW, from my investigations conducted on Youtube, Parris Island seems to be a bit lax these days....No "E" Beach or ICT? WM's train with you and "time outs".....yikes...:yllol:

The old Mother's (now Parent's) of America! They runin everything because they do not want anything to happen to poor johnie or susie Jr ....

BTW Maximus- ICT was changed to BWT back in the mid 80's when I was a DI down there. Although it was the same thing as you would remember. Then when Gen. Krulak was CMC- had BWT moved to SOI and added the "Crucible" to the MCRD's. From my perspective, it has been a much better training regime.

But yea- no E Beach, Phone Calls home on the first day….and way too much “Time Out” now! Heck they even have “Hydration Stations” spread about now. I guess sucking down 2 QTs of Water in one sitting was to harsh!

You know I am starting to think My "duce" gear was a ball and chain from King Aurther.

Wait...."phone call" home??? We didn't see our parents or GF's till Graduation how many months later lol

And here I am chomping at the bit to talk to DS after only a week :shake:
