Has anyone heard from a Basic in the Cobra's about if the documentary that is being filmed? If it's interferring with their "training" or anything? My daughter mentioned that she was pulled out of personal time once but that was it. Also, since I'm not a member of the AOG Parent's group yet, I only have access to the webguys regular posts and haven't seen many Cobra entries yet.

I heard (on the live radio feed on I Day) that the History channel was following 10 2014 cadets through their whole first year. They said it was going to be a full lenth documentary on the History Channel. They said they would also make an edited short version that will be distributed to high schools throughout the country.

Are all the kids they're following in the Cobras?

Onlyplaying, I sent you a PM to get some more info.
I'd be interested to hear more about the documentary as well!

I am also a Basic Cadet Mom. My husband and I are very interested in finding out more as well.

Not exactly sure which Cadets....

I'm not exactly sure which Cadets they are following except that my daughter is one. I'm not clear if it was 10 Cadets, or Squadron 10. I just know for BCT my daughter is in Cobra B. But thanks for the info on it being the History Channel. I didn't even have that information. If I do hear of anything I'll post it. And thanks everyone. Glad to see I can get more info here also.

When we came to Doolittle Hall for I day, they were making all the cadets checking an easle board with a list of names of it of about 15 cadets. We asked if it was good or bad if your name was on the board (our son's name was not on the board). They said that these cadets were chosen at random to be filmed in a documentary.

I remember that board and thinking I was glad my son wasn't on it. On that day, we didn't want any extra attention. I am excited to see it though.

I've seen clips from ones they've done in prior years. They are beautifully done. It would be an incredible keepsake to have of the experience.

Would I want it televised to the world? I would have to really think about that one.

When I first heard of it, I wondered if my son was not one of the ones picked. (Frantic mamma trying to rationalize why I didn't see him on Webguy.) I remember thinking that I would have been notified if he had been one of the basics selected. Then that gut-check moment when I realized, no, I wouldn't be notified. He's 18.

Its great that your daughter's insights into this whole experience will help high schoolers all over the country figure out if the life is for them. What are your feelings about it Onlyplaying?

I remember talking to another Squadron 10 (Cobras B) mom who mentioned that someone was doing a video on that group so it must be the whole flight. Just hope we get to see the results!

I'm okay with the filming as long as it doesn't give them extra pushups. I know they'll get enough as it is. In responding to the post about they would have called, as a parent I didn't know anything about it. Her Bed and Breakfast family contacted me before they took her to the first interview session because they realized that Anastasia is only 17 and we were still responsible for her until I-Day and that they were responsible for her that night. So that was really great of them. I can imagine that part of the documentary will deal with their inner struggles in a testimonial type thing, so that could be very interesting to have on film years from now.

if they are doing testimonial type parts in this film i can only see that it would help a basic with the time to talk to a camera that won't judge them and get the feelings out and past them quicker. just my take on it. the extra push-ups for being a "movie star" will come after the cameras are gone

aa5252000, I was thinking along the same lines. It may be very therapeutic to have opportunities to vocalize how the basics are feeling, etc. (something none of the other basics really get to do except in the dark of night in hushed tones with those immediately within earshot or in a letter home). I think it would be a pretty cool way to recall the beginning of one's military career years down the line...again, something others can't lay claim to or have the benefit of having. Pretty neat, I think. About the "movie star" push-ups...well, it's always nice to have perfect abs when one is captured on film! Rock on, movie stars.

The documentaries always love Tiger Ten, dunno why. I know why I loved Tiger Ten as a cadet. They have a great group of cadre, hope they end up in the video. :)

Honetguy, as I said, I'm new to all these names and stuff. Was Tiger Ten what you were after BCT? My daughter said something about being a Cobra now, but will be a Tiger. So, by the sound of it, they will be in the documentary.

Wow, filming ten fourth-class cadets would be extremely boring and tedious...the day-to-day pattern pretty repeats itself for an entire school year with the exception of 40 Days and Recognition, where it's pretty much basic all over again.

PDub, they don't just film them. They do some filming to show what the kids are experiencing, and then they interview them and find out how they're dealing with it all and what their thoughts and feelings are about the changes they're experiencing. The interviews are very powerful.

I went into Wolfpack 5 (I was a Barbarian) after BCT. After the freshman shuffle I was in Tiger Ten for my last three years as a cadet.

I don't know how much you know about the BCT flight assignments to squad. Quick low down. 10 BCT squads labeled A-J (Aggressors, Barbarians, Cobras....etc.). 4 flights in each. Aggressors A-flight goes to squad 1, Aggressors B-flight to Squad 2. Barbarians A-flight to 5. Cobras B-flight to 10 (Tiger Ten). So, your daugher is in Cobras B-flight and will enter Tiger Ten when BCT ends. So, good chance she is being filmed in some way.

Thanks for the breakdown of labeling system. That does make it clearer.

Update from my Cobra. She hasn't done anything with the film crew since the 2nd night at BCT when they pulled her out of her personal time. That was a bad night for her and the interview session she was crying. It was the "Why am I here day?" So the crew has not been interferring with them.
