USNA Website states
The Admissions Department will submit your name to the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) who will contact you regarding where you may call to schedule your medical examination.

We missed a phone call from USNA today. Our caller ID indicated that USNA called, but a voice message was not left. We returned call and got voice mail, left message. I don't know if this was the call to set up the medical appointment or something else.

Who do we call to set up the DoDMERB appointment or do we have to wait to be called?

When should we expect to hear from the B.G.O. to set up the interview?

What should my daughter, 2015 candidate to USNA, expect during the B.G.O. interview? Are there ways she can prepare for this interview? Tips?

Thanks!

Not sure why USNA called you. This would have been seperate from BGO and DoDMERB.

You will be notified to setup your DoDMERB physical by snail mail. Instructions are explained in the letter. DoDMERB chooses a doctor for you. All you do is call the doctor to schedule an appointment.

Don't "expect" to hear from the BGO. Eventually the BGO will contact you, however, the candidate should always initiate contact. The contact info for your BGO is at the bottom of the candidate portal. Have your daughter send him an email introducing herself and asking the best time for an interview.

BGO's do interviews different ways with regards to scheduling. Some will just knock 'em out as they come in. Others will schedule them relatively close to each other, in which case you may have to wait until a few other candidates complete their application (or atleast get to the 50% mark). So don't be discouraged if the BGO waits to give you a date.

Check out the sticky called the role of the BGO. This will give you a bit more info with regards to what the BGO does, etc.

As far as tips go...here is a pretty good discussion on the interview.

Proud Mom - Cut and paste your posting; provide your daughter's full name and last 4 SSN; send to me at Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil. I can assist U better from there regarding the DoDMERB part of your question.:thumb:

Proudmom....did your girl attend Summer Seminar? If so - there is a very strong chance she did so well it highlighted her application process already with USNA. Let us know and then I'll tell you what happened with us...

The call would NOT be to set up a DoDMERB appointment. The Candidate Guidance Office does not call candidates re: their application. All correspondence is through the CIS system, by snail mail, or via your BGO.

What is possible is that your daughter received a call from a coach, or a diversity officer [if that applies], or some other entity. If your daugher has caught the eye of a coach, for example, it is possible they initiated a contact- however as there is a limit as to how many contacts THEY can initiate, it could explain a "no message." IF your daughter has had contact with any of the coaches, then have HER call them as there is no limit on her side of the equation.

And not to bust your bubble, it is also possible that the number was a mis-dial as well, recognized when the away message came on.

Advise your daughter to contact her BGO.
In the meantime, if the USNA needs to contact her, they will call again.

Last summer, a bunch of freshly minted Ensigns and 2nd Lts were temporarily assigned to the CGO and they made introductory phone calls to candidates. Perhaps they are doing that again this year.

Thanks so much for offering to be so helpful! It helps to understand the process. (Katie received a phone call with her candidate number instead of a packet in the mail.) We understand, now, that a majority of the admission steps need to be completed before receiving a letter in the mail to set up the medical appointment. As of yesterday, Katie completed the majority of her online candidate file. If she does not receive a letter to set up the DoDMERB within 2 weeks, she will send you an email.

Katie's BGO contacted her!
(She emailed her BGO introducing herself and providing her cell #.)
They spoke on the phone for 20 mins. It was informal and set my daughter at ease for the future interview. Thanks to the website that goldfarb1 provided, she was prepared for that phone call. =) THANKS!

Peskemom,
Yes, Katie attended the 2nd session of NASS last month. She LOVED, LOVED, LOVED her experience. My daughter is a "girly girly" but also very athletic. 1st in her squad to finish during Sea Trials... Her roommates later told her they thought she was going to do terrible at NASS - she painted her nails the first night she was there! =)
At the closing ceremony Katie received the Color Man Award for her company.

i'm just wondering what the medical disqualifications for the Naval Academy?

There is a general listing in the catalog, available at usna.edu/admissions. However, the fact that something is a disqualification does not mean it can't/won't be waived. If you have a specific concern, contact Larry Mullen of DODMERB. His contact info is in a post above.
