USMA has received all 8 of my transcripts but academic info is still pending

What's up with that? My candidate portal was recently updated to reflect that USMA has received all 8 of my high school transcripts. I thought that once they received all 8, the request for academic information form would go from pending to on file. However, the request for academic information form is still pending, meaning that there's something else that needs to be sent. Thing is, I have no idea what that other form is. Thought maybe you guys would know.

I have called up the office and was referred to the answering machine, I have shot an e-mail for my counselor who is responsible for the information, and I have also shot an e-mail to the admissions officer for the Southeast area. I looked through the application instruction booklet and under request for academic information, it stated that the contact should give "academic information, transcripts, and a follow-up of your seventh semester grades as soon as they are available," separating, clearly, academic information and transcripts. So therefore, they're not the same thing. Is the other form the academic information, and if so, what is on that academic information form?

Your signature says you're a hokie (nice!), maybe they want to see some college stuff?

And by Stuff, I have no idea what specifically. But maybe you have a college transcript?

Good Luck

They stated specifically on the candidate portal that no college transcripts were required, or any of my college activities. So the way I think West Point sees me is that I'm done with high school but I'm not in college (hopefully that doesn't act as a hindrance to me, haha).

You have taken the right step by contacting admissions. They will update your file to include college transcripts. Yes, they are required.

Ah, knew they would need it. I thought it was a bit weird at first when I received my candidate kit and they said none of my college transcripts were required.

I'm pretty sure the academic information form is separate from your transcript because the academic info changed from pending to submitted way before my transcript was received. My counselor said it was a form about the school and how I've performed, like class rank and stuff that was basically the same info they could glean from a transcript.

Exactly. All that info is already readably available on my transcript. I asked my counselor what he had to do and he stated that he filled out an electronic form. Don't know what was on that form, but if he filled out the academic information, my status should have already changed.

Alright, talked to my counselor this morning. Apparently he didn't receive the e-mail for the academic information form back then, so I resent it today. He has now submitted it. So now, I have two things left for admissions: the CFA and nominations.

Two suggestions that may assist you. Find out who your Field Admissions Representative is if you don't already know. He/she can help with the process and answer your questions. I'll also commend you on getting your packet complete and submitted early. Many qualified applicants missed out on an appointment this year because they waited too long to submit their application. Get the CFA knocked out and work on those nomination packets. Good luck!

Thanks. I got the academic information form in. Now it's all a matter of knocking out the CFA and doing nomination packets, as well as maintaining high grades in college.

Peter - Given you are in the VA 10th District, you will want to talk to Ms. Potchnak and LTC Shablom in Congressman Wolf's office. They know the process and are very helpful. LTC Shablom is the USMA Liasion Officer in this area and he is also the head of Wolf's academy selection board. Don't attmept to go it alone. Yes, you live in one of the most competive districts in the county but remember where there is a will, there is a way. Good luck.

By the way, have you considered doing AROTC at VATech? This will demonstrate a commitment to becoming an Army Officer.

I have actually talked to Mrs. Potchnak. She's actually very nice and answers questions promptly.

Originally, I wanted to do ROTC at Tech but my dad's pretty stubborn and says that the best way to become an Army officer is to go through West Point. I've tried convincing him, saying that this was my life and that I should be in control of it, but he's not going to let me do ROTC either way. It's either lead a civilian life at Tech or go through West Point in his mind. So I choice West Point because I am really aspirational about becoming a military officer. And of course, I'm going to West Point not because it's the only way to become a military officer, at least in his mind, or to please my dad, but because I believe I still have a chance.

So to make up for that, I am going to try to do student government at Tech and take some leadership classes if they offer any.

Peter -
I highly suggest that you contact the Liason officer for your area. Have him meet with you and your dad. This is important since your dad is influencing the decisions you make that will have an affect on your application to West Point.

Your Dad needs to fully understand that taking ROTC your freshman year at Va Tech will greatly enhance your West Point application.
Also, did you apply to West Point last year?

Peter-

I don't believe that there is a universal "best" way to become an Army Officer. It is whatever path best suits the individual, or whatever path is available if you truly want to become an officer. I'm only nineteen, and haven't even worn a uniform, but that's my opinion as of now. West Point cadets do receive much more intense training than rotc cadets, and therefore may be better prepared to lead, but don't believe that an rotc graduate is any less of an officer than an SA grad.

Well seeing as I'm about to move into Tech in another month, do you believe it's still too late to do ROTC?

And no, I didn't apply last year. I was physically unfit, so I went through a huge physical change by developing my own diet and fitness schedule. That's why I'm applying this year and not last year.

It's not too late. Any college freshman can sign up for the class without a commitment.
At Va Tech though, I believe you need to be in the Corps of Cadets.

You need to talk with your Liason officer and the folks in ROTC at Va Tech.

Yea, I'd be glad to take the class, but joining the Corps of Cadets would mean leaving my roommate and switching out of my housing contract.

I will have a talk with the Liason officer, though, once I get the chance.
