Came home from work to find 2 letters in the mailbox from DS. First letter was basically a recap of the events of Iday that he told us about after the Oath of Office Ceremony. The second letter was one of the "questionnaire" letters we had given him to fill out. He checked off a lot of the funny answers, he checked off that he was having fun and that he was having a hard time. He felt like he had performed pretty good on his IST (got compliments from his squad leader). He asked for homemade cookies and "news from the outside world". Said he didn't need any gatorade or protein bars at this time. Said that they were making them drink a lot of gatorade. He was excited that they got to sleep in on 4th of July (until 7). He said it was a fun day. All in all mostly positive stuff. Makes this mom feel a lot better at this time :thumb:

My neighbor (who's son is also a plebe this year) received letters today as well. I think it's because we're not too far away. Bet yours will be there tomorrow.

You have a neighbor to share this with? Lucky you. Best of luck to each of you.

Got a full page letter yesterday - nothing negative said at all. So big relief. :thumb:

Received a letter from DS yesterday - what a boost that was for everyone!

Said they had crabcakes for lunch on the 4th and donuts from 10-12 on Sunday (guessing that was the religious service?)

He said PEP was his favorite, and that it was getting alittle better everyday :)

He also said he didn't need anything at this time but would let me know when he does.

So good to hear from him!

No letter here yet in Colorado but am enjoying hearing about your Plebes. Thanks for sharing.

Still waiting in AL...maybe today! It is so good to hear about classmates! Thanks for sharing.

We got 2 letters from DS yesterday, but when we opened the 2nd there was a little note in it to give that letter to his GF because he didn't have her address, LOL.
In his letter to us he said it actually wasn't too bad there and he's getting use to it. He also said he really likes his roomies! He apparantly hadn't gotten his care package yet because he said he gets a little hungry at nite, so he sure could use some snacks! It was so great to get his letter, and hopefully he'll find more time to write.
Only 2 more days till that phone call!

No letter yet in South Dakota, but so relieved to hear that a lot of you are getting some! Maybe today will be today. How ironic that we spent months waiting by the mailbox for the Appointment, and now I am still waiting by the mailbox,,,,,

First letter home today in Texas...postmarked July 6th. Talks about the IST test (anyone kow what the standards are for that?) and that its really not bad...as long as he doesn't think about how many days are left. Says he liked the Shepherds pie because it was super easy to swallow quickly! Mentions forgetting a detailers name and having to write it out, therefore my letter was really short. Also, says not to send care packages, because they were given "EVERYTHING" and that they don't have time to stow what is sent. I was looking forward to sending weekly packages and hope he forgives me for sending the cookies we just mailed! The thing that struck me the most was one line..."I can do this."

Got our letter yesterday from our Plebe. We're in Nevada. Really long letter. (Right, it was 5 sentences long). All he wanted was ICE CREAM. Don't think I can mail that. Love reading all of the the replys on the forum and seeing all of the pictures on Facebook.

Letter today! written on the 2nd...gosh, not even time for him to aclimate...which is apparent in the letter. Made me really happy for the picture of him we saw on facebook yesterday. He looked happy in the photo, which was taken AFTER he wrote the letter. Letter isn't negative, but he did say it was tough and thanks for the prayers!

I know you were waiting patiently and I am so glad that you got a letter today! No letter came in SD, but our mail from the East Coast usually takes awhile. I think it comes on the Pony Express! :yllol:

We also received our first letter today (a whole page!) - somehow made it all so real for me :frown:.

He started by saying he is surviving , but already feels like Plebe Summer will never end. He said they have a total of about 45 mins a day of personal time, but a few hours on a Sunday (letter dated Sun. July 4th). He said Sunday was amazing because they were "Detailer free" until 1200. He went to a church service and found it incredibly enjoyable. He added that the food is actually really good and he loves meal time. As I mentioned in another thread, he asked me to please send more black compression shorts (they do so much running, he wears them all the time), but that they have been given practically everything else.

The sentence that was tough for me: "I am missing home, and it is hardest in the quiet right before bed, but hopefully I will survive".
I know he is tough enough to survive this, but at least I know what time to pray the hardest for him!

I was just browsing around and came across this link (through USMA) of some form letters that us parents can copy (and adjust to be applicable to USNA) and send to our Plebe for them to complete and mail back to us. I've been meaning to create my own, but this is a great resource!

Some parents have commented that this is the only way they get to hear from their cadets/plebes.

Faithful Mom,
Thanks for sharing your letter. I will add your plebe as well as all other plebes and plebe candidates to my daily thoughts and prayers.

I got a letter from my son yesterday too. Was one whole page long. He was very positive... He said the detailers were tough, but fair. I never realized my son's handwriting was so terrible, or maybe he was just writing quickly.

No letter yet here in Houston, Texas but I so enjoy hearing about your plebes and their letters! Continue to share. I am also thrilled to read that for the most part they are doing well. Such a blessing!

Sniff, Sniff. OK, this made me reach for my kleenexes! No letter yet for us, maybe tomorrow. Sigh.
