So I just finished filling out everything on the application online, submitted all of the teacher and counselor forms, but I still need to do the nominations..

But anyways, since I am an official candidate to USNA (to those who said I wouldn't,:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:) my mom agreed to let me go down and visit the campus. I am most likely going to go down in middle-late August. Will plebe summer still be going on? Are there certain tour groups there?

Also, I was told by a usma cadet that when visiting the usma, to go into the restricted areas on purpose, just to get the true feel of what the school is really like. Would you agree with that for USNA?

PS goes on until Aug 20 when the Brigade reforms.

I'm not sure you'll get to experience much just by visiting the Yard in mid-Aug. You'll probably not get to talk to any Plebes. You will see them in some activities but these will be more polished and less stressful because they're happening at the very end of PS not at the beginning.

If you want to get a real feel for the NA try to get a slot at a Candidates Visit Weekend. My Plebe went in Feb and that was all she needed to decide.

Bad advice.
I would not recommend that on any base or post. USNA and West Point are Military Installations. Restricted areas are restricted for a reason, mostly force protection.

But, yeah you can visit the Yard. Go to the vistor's center, take a tour, stop by admissions. Be respecful of the rules.

Admissions actually has scheduled presentations (check online for schedule) and then there's a paid tour that is very interesting. If you tell the tour leader that you are an official candidate, then you may get some extra attention.

CVW or candidate visit weekend is the best way to get a feel for what it is really like to be at the Academy. I suggst you check with your BGO to schedule a visit.

Good luck to you with your process.

Go to a Candidate's visit weekend and take your parents. You and they will be able to visit classrooms, you will be able to stay overnight with midshipmen in Bancroft, meet and talk to many, many mids, and most importantly for you and your parents, a trip to the Midstore!. My favorite place on Earth! Tell your parents to eat a meal at the Dry Dock and soak in the atmosphere. See the chapel and take lots of pictures. My son really got a lot out of that visit and is still friends with the mids he stayed with that weekend. There is also a parent meeting and they will give tours of the Yard. Do not miss this opportunity. We went last November. Good luck!

rhetorical question: In what way could getting thrown out of a restricted area help your candidacy????

If you can only afford one visit to USNA, I agree with previous posters who suggested that you attend a CVW. An August visit will not give you an opportunity to meet current Mids, nor attend classes, nor stay over night in a company area of Bancroft, nor visit the Mid store.
