Sending (mailing) phones back to new cadets at West Point after March back.

We are going to A Day but from my understanding, they are allowed to use cell phones right after March back, and I'd like to gril....er I mean talk to DS after Beast, before we get up there. I think it'll be about a three or four day window.
DS and a good friend (fellow Prepster) talked about this over a meal "R" Day eve, and we never really made up our collective minds over what to do with DS's phone, he ended up just giving it to DW. DS's friend decided to risk it and kept his and it's in storage possibly getting banged around. Another issue is DS's phone is a Blackberry Storm and we went through hell with Verizon getting one that worked last spring. Try dealing with Verizons Insurance carrier sending out rebuilt phones, one after the other till they finally broke down (after threats to cancel my other 5 contracts with them) and sent a new one, we didn't want to risk having DS start out with no phone at all after possibly breaking this new one.

That's a new one then. The Corps has.....
Used to be they could not until A-Day.
In any case, once their phones are hooked up in their rooms they can call you anytime from there for free.
In my daughter's year, some phones were not hooked up but the upperclass let the plebes use their phones until they were hooked up.
Good point, maybe I'll rethink this....

maximus -- given the occasional issues with package delivery, I would recommend bringing the cell phone with you on A Day -- reorgy week is very very busy, so he may not get to the post office -- plus they will be inundated with other packages and delivery may be delayed. Your son will have access to his own land line phone in his room (although someone will hopefully tell him what he needs to dial to get an outside line -another story for another time 
) Also, given the fact that he can't speak outside of his room, it's not like having a cell phone will be all that helpful.
We brought our son's phone on A Day, but were able to speak w/ him when he was free during reorgy week (twice?) via his land line. He did email a lot after getting his computer so I had his shopping list for school supplies and other things he "needed" (a case of mountain dew).

Thanks for the reply. We're totally sold, we're taking it up on A Day. Settled that on the phone call home from the Ice Cream Social, DS said there was a good possibility that it would either get smashed or lost. He loves his Blackberry! lol
