The Ice Cream Social is today! We're all doing okay - everything seems really hard while you're doing it, but not so bad after you've finished. Hazing hasn't been bad but the cadre have definitely been putting major physical/mental stress on us (what else would you expect?). My peers are great, but we all haven't had many opportunities to get to know each other except for our roommates and our squad. I think our class is going to be a really good one! Everyone is doing fine, but they were right....at least for me, Beast has been filled with some really high highs and some really low lows. Heat rash and blisters have been an issue for some, but we're all getting really good treatment from the cadre and our company's medic. The change of cadre happened today, so we're all anxious to determine how tough or chill they will be for the rest of Beast. The weeks have been so short, but the days have been very, very long. Love from all the New Cadoodles - Katherine

From our NC: Beast is hell, but I expected nothing less. PB & J is my new friend. Thanks for the fan and keep the cards and letters coming It's what we live for. Now the fun starts!

So what are the difference of the 2nd phase Beast activities from the 1st three weeks?

We heard from DS about an hour ago and he basically said the same thing, trying to feel out the new Cadre.

He also talked about looking forward to Buckner? I guess the Barracks life between the hurry up and wait, are starting to get boring studying knowledge lol

DS also mentioned he had heard that between 30 and 100 New Cadets have left? He said he suspected it was closer to the 30 and he heard that through Cadre, and an Officer talking. I didn't want to dwell on it so I just said: "oh really" Have you heard anything like that?

Although not very detailed these slides (49 and 50) were part of the Supt.'s briefing on R-Day:

Thanks. I was looking for more details (on intensities). Also heard ca 50 kids have left.

Spoke with DS who said they would spend more time in the field in the next few weeks. In the conversation, I was amazed that he claimed to have gained 15 Lbs. How is that possible? Also, he did not sound like he wanted to talk with us for long. They were at a Major's home for 3-4 hours, having a good time. I guess our support is no longer that important.:frown:

Gaining weight= PB & J rules!! This comes from a son that hated it, now 2 or 3 are the end of every meal "it fills up the corners" says he.

More fun now= now the they get to shoot, blow stuff up (land nav is awesome, especially at night) :shake:and in general learn more about soldiering in the field.

With respect to intensity I would expect overall intensity to pick up a bit in all activities. I know that Beast II Cadre have been at WP since July 3rd undergoing intensive training getting prepared to take command of Phase II. They were chomping at the bit to get started.

As far as intenity, my dd says the second half was actually easier, because they are doing field training and don't harass as much. Most upperclassmen prefer Beast II detail.

As far as support, don't kid yourself. It is as important now as it ever was. Your poor cadet was in a relative stranger's home using his phone with at least 8 other people waiting to use it. Also there was food to eat, television to watch and floors to sleep on. Like a kid in a candy store, he wanted to experience it all for the very short time it was available. I am sure hearing your voice gave him a boost that will help him hang out the next few weeks Keep writing those letters and sending him cards and jokes.

Gaining weight is not that unusual. They are putting on muscle mass and they are being fed very high calorie food. Last year that it was something like 4000 calories/day.

We heard from our daughter yesterday. Heard the number is around the 50 mark. Said it has been the hardest experience of her life, however doesn't regret her decision. Said that even on the worst day, she never thought about quitting. She said she has lost alot of weight, dropped 3 inches on waist in the first 10 days. She said she is alway tired and hungry. That being said, she said she can't imagine herself anywhere else!! We're looking forward to the marchback and A day!!!

Sounds like she is a tough girl.:thumb:
Dropping 3" on waist in 10 days is a dream for a lot of girls.
