Since we are all probably baking or preparing to bake- I had two thoughts

1. since we are making homemade items with no ingredients list attached should we include ingredients incase there is an allergy?
I know we are dealing with young adutls- just don't want someone ending up at sick call for eating something that would make them sick!

2. Advice on the best way to ship these coveted goodies?

Never mailed baked goods before.

Doubtful that anyone with a serious (i.e. - peanut) food allergy would have passed DODMERB and received an appointment.

I think you're safe sending whatever you wish.

I don't think you need to worry about allergies.

on www.kpcookiecafe.com there are suggestions for shipping cookies. Takes a little extra time but then you don't end up with a box of crumbs. From PA I have always sent it priority and it is received in 2 days so I don't bother overnighting it.

Thanks for that advice. I know my DS has an allergy that has been controlled for years- just sdon't want any accidents to happen.

Hahaha! Coastie- I'm sure you wouldn't mind a few less KP's around (scarsim) just being funny- good friend of ours are Coasties.....

Love the support here for all parents!

I sent Chocolate Chip cookies without nuts, just in case, but the DODMERB comment was a good one...:shake:

cookies

I marked what was in the container and dated it. I also wrote no nuts.

cookie cafe

Just think of all the cookies as practice for when your state "sponsors" the Cookie Cafe (usually twice a year and it truly makes a difference for the mids spirits during the school year ):thumb:.

On the MMA website/Cookie Cafe there are tips on how to package cookies so that they arrive in one piece. All the new parents are doing a great job of supporting your child and others. Thank you.

COOKIES....Yum!

First Company should have received their own little mini cookie cafe today, as I know of three of us that sent cookies that I believed were all received today...I just wish that I could have sent the cold milk that was requested too, but it is probably best with all of the outside acitivities that they not have milk in this heat...

Well they will have some more coming their way- I'm going to bake tonight after dinner and hopefully put them in the mail in the morning (fingers crossed).

I will cook and send anything if it makes the DD and DS smile and makes to DI's happy with a treat....:shake:

Be careful with allergies, the comment on DODMERB isn't entirely true. The last thing you want is someone's kid unknowingly eating a cookie with nuts and being forced to use an epi pen and go to the hospital with the nice EMTs. Especially when this situation can be avoided as simply as writing "contains nuts" somewhere on the package.

Cookies

My Wife and I also sent cookies, about 10 dozen, that arrived last Thursday or Friday, my son is in 102.

Cookies

I sent 12 dozen cookies to Company 401 Monday so they should be there by Wednesday since I live on LI. Will get lots of practice to be ready for Cookie Cafe

thanks, theycallme Farrari... my exact thoughts too! I didn't mean to start a whole allergy or no allergy allowed at USMMA- I just knew of an allergy and theought it wise to label. I know my DS when he see's a cookie and wants on he will eat first and ask questions later- if he is hungry and it involves refined sugar!!!!

Don't for get "Mom" Guest and the Cookie Cafe. It's a haven for these kids.

Didn't mean to start a controversy, but it's been pretty well documented that a nut allergy that's serious enough to require an EPI-Pen would most likely be disqualifying medical condition under DODMERB.

Perhaps the DODMERB requirements at KP are not as strict as they are for the other military academies, or perhaps waivers for such allergies are more common there.

I would tend to think that nuts and/or any product(s) that contain nuts would be pretty hard to avoid at any of the academies.

Good luck with the cookie cafe, I think it's one great idea. :thumb:

I guess I better get my baking on too!! :yllol: I was wondering when it would be a good time to get them out. I did read somewhere that we have to bake lots!!

Cookies

Even after Indoc. do we still need to bake for the whole company? I would never want to leave anyone out so I want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

first tray in over.... mixed up a double batch of "Toll House Chocolate Chips".
This bunch is headed to the 101.... maybe next time we should coordinate or mailings.
