It is my understanding our Candidates will be moving and assigned new roommate/roommates today. Will that be their roommate/roommates for the entire tri-mester or maybe even entire year? Are they ever allowed to request or have any input regarding roommate(s)?

Also, with the start of school will they be able to seek out familiar faces/friends they made during INDOC? Or, will their dailly actions be regimented similar to INDOC?

Thank you.

Our DS changed roommates every trimester. First tri they were three to a room, second tri there were two.

One thing that has amazed me is the "stuff" they manage to accumulate. Remember that 2+ weeks ago you sent your son/daughter off with a duffel bag and a fan? DH just came back from KP this morning with an unbelievable load of belongings from DS and other Band Co mids that didn't make it into the sea lockers before they ship out this week.:shake:

When my daughter called this morning she said they had changed roommates yesterday. So if you haven't spoken with your so yet today he will probably tell you about it.

They changed rooms and room mates every tri. I believe that the assignments are random.

It is my understanding that roommate change frequency and requests depend upon the Company your Mid is in. Each Company operates differently.

Do they change CO's as well?

Be cautious when using the term "CO". CO identifies the USMS Commissioned Officer (not a midshipman) who is in charge of the company. These individuals rarely change companies and can be there from anywhere between 1 to what seems like forever in years.

Now, if you are talking about the company officers, as in the Midshipmen 1st Class Officers such as the company commander, platoon commander, etc then yes, those people will rotate at around the winter break and a new set of 1st Class Officers will rotate in.

Reason I asked was because "CO" was the term my DS used in our phone call today. Said that the CO was in charge of his whole life. So exactly, whom is he speaking of?

company change

They change rooms & roommates every trimester what about companies does that change also

They do not always change rooms and roommates. My DS changed after first tri but had the same room and roommate for second and third tris. They did have to pack up all their stuff and store it between second and third tris only to unpack and move back into the same room. That would drive me nuts, but they just deal with it and move on. Sometimes they change roommates and sometimes they don't. Changing companies is rare and only happened with a few mids last year. Of course that may be different with 5th co this year. Again, the key to success is to be flexible. I understand it is frustrating and unsettling not to know what the future holds for your DS/DD, but that is part of the training at KP, learning how to deal with the unexpected and rolling with the punches so to speak. The sooner everyone realizes that parents and plebe candidates have no control over any of this, the easier everyone's lives will be.

It's unclear which one your son was referring to. At this point he was likely referring to the Company Commander (the midshipman) because they have been beaten about the head multiple times about how much tougher it will be when the company officers (midshipmen officers) take over.

He may not fully understand the verbage just yet.

Is this to prepare them for their time at sea, so that they are able to handle many different personalities, as I am not sure what other reason they would have to constantly change their roommates ????

My PC had the same roommate for his first year. The roommate change the second year was based on A/B split. The other changes were because of sea year and accepting leadership responsibilities.
You will also find that the roommate situation will change, just because the CO wants it that way. Don't get caught up in the "Why".
The thing is, once you graduate from KP, you will always have a roommate, a brother, and a second set of parents no matter where your end up. :shake:

Thanks Wolfe! Not worried, just wondering why so much change. I appreciate your comments.
