Well ladies and gents, August 14th is getting closer and closer. Thats the day the class of 2014 Matriculates and Hell Week begins (7 days of getting slayed) Lol. I just would like to thank everyone on this website who has helped with the many questions I have had, etc. If Im not mistaken we are not even recognized as the class of 2014,so I take that back. We are just a bunch of people who will hopefully graduating in 2014 :p Wish us luck.

Sincerely,
Steven (soon to be Cadet Recruit Oatridge)

Plus, you are very brave using your full name on this forum future Cadet

I would echo the sentiment of the last poster. You don't want upperclassmen to know your name. Before I undertook knob year, an alum advised me to try to be a "Ghost knob." I would advise you to do the same.

I thought about that but then I talked to my best friend who did that when he went to boot camp. Turns out when he went to shake his Drill Instructors hands after graduation, they didnt really know "who" he was becuase he was "that ghost recruit". Thus he has regrettes it ever since. I'm just there to go to school and get my Commission, if I get "special" attention then I'll owe up to my dues.

I went to The Citadel yesterday. I was accepted there and I decided to attend. But one night decided to enlist and go to BUD/s. I got a little sad knowing that I wouldnt be going here in 2 weeks but it is what it is.

We all make decisions, just make sure the decision is what your willing to live with the rest of your life

It sounds like you made a rash decision, but it is what it is. Were you prepared to pay for school - ROTC scholarship, academic, loans, parents? Just curious why you decided at the last minute to change your mind.

The Citadel isn't going anywhere, so after your times on the teams you decide you want to go to college, I'd give them a second look.

Good Luck to you!

Sir, Do you miss your days at The Citadel?

Don't worry, i don't think its possible to be a complete ghost knob. It's the idea behind it though. I've advised you as such, and you will pay for the consequences of your actions.

Im not trying to stand out in anyway or form, when I created the account I just decided to use my name. I dont think there is a way to change my "display name" is there?

That's a loaded question. There are many things I miss about all aspects of my life. I miss seeing my friends and company-mates. That's about it. I do not miss knob year, inspections, marching in parades, tours, restrictions, etc. You will learn of all these things I mentioned in the next 4 years.

Steven, Have you found out what company you are in yet?

Steven- If you have- Don't post it here!

Guys a real word of advice- don't go out of your way to make yourself a bullseye before you even show up to the school. Posting what company you will be in- or using your name or making it easy to identify yourself by posts here or on facebook is a really bad idea that will only serve to make a hard time harder.
I've seen a couple of years worth of "prestrains" on this forum (Rats prior to matriculation day) who are confused about the difference between internet relationships and real live physical ones. Trust me on this one- you aren't going to enhance your overall "class spirit" by showing up "knowing" other posters; and you won't win any points for being the master of arcane trivia about being a Rat; a Knob; a Rook etc... At this point- two weeks out- you really ought to be in the quiet, receiving mode working out as hard as you can; making sure that you have everything they have instructed you to bring, and steeling yourself for what will be a hot, challenging time ahead of you.
The OP here posted that someone had told him that the ideal is to be invisible- that is dead on. You really want to show up on matriculation day in good spirits, ready for a challenge, convinced that you have made the right decision and WON'T QUIT; and to be judged by what you do from then on out.
They can't kill you; won't cook you and eat you and tens of thousands have gone before you successfully- you can do this too- BUT it won't be easy and you will find that lots of internet preconceptions about how you and others will act under stress, will get shattered.

Good luck to all of you:thumb:

I'm confused, ... I thought that new cadets Matriculate at VMI on Saturday, August 21st?
