I read on collegeboard.com that West Point considers a candidate's status as a first generation college student. Is this true?
 
Even though I explicitly stated my parents' graduate degrees when filling out the personal information section of the portal?

Yes this is true. It's not a "hook".
It is simply a way to get to understand a candidates background and where they are coming from.
First generation college students generally come to the table with obstacles than those who parents attended college.

Before we get any posts on West Point discriminating against candidates whose parents went to college; let me make clear - this is not a make or break it. It is simply one factor in evaluating a candidates whole package.
And, yes - it is very common for many colleges to consider an applicant's first generation college status.
 
How would i go about telling West Point this? Also, my mom went to college for like a semester but never received an associates degree. Do I still qualify?

When you fill out your application one section of it asks for both your parents names, occupations and highest level of education completed.

Do you mean the CPDR because it only asked if they had a SA affiliation I believe? Or did I miss that?
 
I looked at my Personal Data Record and that form only lists their occupation/SA affiliation, not their highest level of education even though I definitely remember providing it! I would ask advice from your MALO on how to convey this part of your candidacy to be sure.
