Army Scholarship awarded to multiple schools?

When applying for the Army ROTC scholarship, it asks for 7 colleges you would like to attend, in order of preference. If you are qualified, would the Army be able to provide a scholarship to whichever school you later pick, or will they only provide it for one (ie. first/second choice).

I am asking this because I have no idea which college I want to go to, all 7 look good, and I am not sure which ones I will even get into.

Say they award the scholarship for one college, and either I don't get in or change my mind; can the scholarship be changed?

Yes the scholarship can be transferred to another university providing the AROTC Program approves the change. Whether they will or not depends on a number of factors including whether there is room at your "new" Battalion and budgetary considerations (is one more expensive?)

Also, if you awarded a scholarship early and are well qualified, you may be approved for all five of your top choices of colleges. Make sure you list schools that you would attend if awarded a scholarship and then apply early to those schools. Good luck!

Say you are awarded a 4 year ROTC scholarship, and attend a college for a year in the ROTC program under the scholarship. After this one year, can you apply to a SA and not incur any debt? (Backup plan if not accepted to USMA this year). Can you essentially cancel your scholarship 1 year in without having any debt to pay off?

Yes, you can opt out without any consequences up until the first day of your sophomore year.

Yes. Many people re-apply during their first and even second years of college to one of the SAs. You do not incur any debt during the first year if you choose to attend a SA after that year. You also do not incur a debt during the first year if you choose not to continue with ROTC during the second year. The first year is a try-before-you-buy program. Don't join ROTC if you're not serious, but there is no need to continue after the first year if it is not correct for you. BTW - you DO incur a debt/commitment on the first day of the second year if you are on scholarship.

Remember if you elect to apply to any SA as a freshman your packet is still do at the same time, it is important to inform the det as soon as you get there of your intention to do so. You need to be up front about the situation, not only due to professional reasons, but many det commanders are very supportive of this and will assist you in the process. They want you to get it too!

Last year, the amount of schools offered to you was related to the numbers you put on the list. If you put all 7, you could hope for 5 back.(If everything worked out. If you put 5, you might only get 2 or 3 back. I would only list schools that you would be happy to go to. Otherwise, you might get stuck with a scholarship to a school you don't like.

I would definitely pick 7 schools and go from there. Then start researching and/or visiting them as much as possible to get an idea of what you're looking for. You can add and/or drop schools as you go along. You can also move schools up and down the list as the process goes by.

For example, when my daughter starting the process, Montana State and Michigan were #1 and #2 on her list. University of Portland wasn't anywhere on the list at all but they contacted us to solicit interest. We started to do alot of research and Portland went on to her list at #2 or #3. We later bumped it up to #1. Out of the 7 schools on her list, she ended up getting 3 schools offered but they were the top 3 on her list.
